I you have the power-user kernel installed, then follow the instructions on
http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#U...ng_to_a_new_PR
for the OTA upgrade.

Nah, got over a gig in rootfs. Very odd.

Nokia Updater is software from their website. It recognises the device and checks for the latest software. Its about 100mb. I dont like using it as it tends to be temperamental and not read my phone, but its good for occasions like this I suppose

Just flashed mine with the global firmware. Contacts and files were left intact, restored settings from backup.

First impressions:
1. This is obviously old news, but it's nice to actually be able to dial USSD codes directly with the Phone application.
2. Maps seems to get a GPS lock faster.
3. Email client loads mail folders (esp. my gigantic Gmail inbox) faster
4. Long press for numbers and symbols is also very useful
5. Qt 4.6 included by default. I'm a developer so this is useful for me.
6. Email widget is nice but I want it to be able to show read messages as well. I don't like having to see the (no unread messages) message.
7. I still can't create playlists in the media player. What's up with that?

gig of rootfs? its only 256meg isn't it? /home != /

I had about 10 megs less than a colleague.. he couldn't install, I could.. he had MANY more apps installed, though.. looking at the apt package list, it seemed to think it would require only 36meg of root space to do the install.. so...

Anyway, to get back on topic, just flashed mine with the global FW, everything went butter-smooth and I have a pic to prove it (people were asking for sshots):

It feels snappier than PR 1.1.1, and as a bonus my rootfs went from 52.4MB to 92.6MB free

Also, backup app did a wonderful job restoring all my installed applications (apart from several from devel/testing because those repositories were disabled when I created the backup), so in less than half an hour I had everything back just the way it was.

UPDATE:
1) FM-Transmitter icon from Settings is gone, I guess it has to do something with it being disabled in my region even tho you can legally buy products with FM-Transmitters in my country. Will check later if the fmtx-faker can run it even without having the icon in the Settings.
2) There is a new "My Nokia" icon in the Settings that allows you to subscribe to Nokia news.

I don't think it is space free..

people said.. I had no space.. so I uninstalled apps.. now I can install..
it's removing those apps that let them install, not the space.. I had 79% used.. 43meg I think.. and I've just upgraded!!

I'm going to help my colleague out now, see if I can track down what app/apps are causing the problem and perhaps an automated script to highlight hot spots

I started with 42.. something, slowly got it up to 56.1mb free but still can't update over the air. I dont know whether to keep searching or give up and wait til I get home from work I have all the catelogues diabled except nokia apps and nokia updates, I've cleared the cache, I've removed unneeded dependencies, hmm.. i thought >56mb free it would be enough to get it OTA.

Edit: I just noticed a post saying >57mb, earlier i think i saw one saying >55.5mb .. well the journey to 57mb continues..
