I've overclocked my N900 (Range is from 500-1000 Mhz with kernel v37 and ideal)). Today I noticed the smell of burnt plastic when I smelled on the middle of the keyboard. I was browsing and listening to music.
Temp was about 49°C (cat /sys/class/power_supply/bq27200-0/temp)

Will the CPU automatically shutdown/reboot if it is too hot?

it may be the final shutdown
if it's too hot, downclock and kill processes with 100% CPU usage.

i used this script

but it seems to load kernel config from a location i cant find , even if i change kernel-power-settings/default to my own config it loads min-max freq ok (presuming from above scripts) but the voltages are nokia stock voltage not mine (should be titan ideal voltages) , any idea what im doing wrong ?
battery module loaded and working ok , files executable etc and loading at boot with correct min-max freq but wrong voltages

Sorry if I have missed it, but I just couldn't find the way to make the avoid frequency permanent coz if i echo the freq in avoid_frequency, it resets and the value I've put is erased after reboot.

I had exactly the same problem.

Its not clear on the wiki either.

You have to remove the frequency (and associated volt and dsprate) from the list of freqs.

For example, from the default template:

FREQS="0:30,90 125:30,90 250:38,180 500:48,360 550:54,400 600:60,430 700:60,430 750:60,430 805:60,430 850:60,500 900:60,500 1000:60,500 1100:72,520 1150:72,520"

Notice the removed 950Mhz (and associated volt and dsprate) - therefore 950Mhz is not used.

Correct me if i'm wrong anyone, but thats what i've done to avoid.

I just cannot believe there is 4314 posts about overclocking the N900 and people do not realise that this will kill the device without a proper mod to keep the heat down because unless you do this your N900 is simply going to die lol.

I can understand the risk of overclocking to something like 700-800mhz but beyond that you are asking for trouble.

Everything is squeezed into a small package - there is no place for the heat to go.

Heat to electrical components is like kryptonite to superman.

Everything in moderation.

You have clearly not been following this thread. That have been discussed in this thread on numerous occations. If you use the forum search you will find your answer.

The risk of overheating is very low. But do not get over comfortable and do something stupid like letting the phone run on 850mhz minimum. As always.. if you feel the phone get's hot - lower the mhz and you should be good.

I have tested a lot of different settings. I am running at 805mhz max which are enough for me. I benefit of the longer battery and a smother run. I do not need more juice as i am not a gamer
