I have the same wish, but Witter is an excellent (and developing) application. It might not have the polish and additional features that TweekDeck has for the iPhone/iPad (and soon Android), but it does the job. Worth playing with:

I've had my n900 for about a year now. It;s fine to do the daily things. I live by it because I overhyped it and don't have enough for an upgrade.

But please, am I missing something? How can I get applications. I resort to googling apps and find nothing. they don;t even have proper apps for basics things such as facebook (wth is with the widget anyway?), or twitter. even ebay?

im honestly contemplating on getting an iphone.

i dont understand what nokia is doing other than trying to make an extra buck trying to sell useless apps.

Facebook and eBay application is called web browser. Use it exactly like you use your desktop computer's browser. My experience is with applications for these two sites you are receiving a stripped down version of the full site. The browser gives you the full site. Additionally, on Facebook, you can enable SMS updates for the friends you want to follow. This will send a message to your N900 when they update their status. There are several Twitter applications. I don't use Twitter so can not suggest which would be best.

n900 doesn't need useless so-called 'apps'. apps that doesn't have any more 'functionality' are clearly useless.

so learn using the webbrowser. one of the fastest mobile browser on the planet. 'nuff said.

granted there isn't a huge amount of apps for n900, especially for those who avoid -devel. but tbh we dont need an app for any of the online sites you mention, iphones and androids get crippled versions of major webpages or their web browsers just aren't up to the task, n900 gets full websites like on a pc, almost as fast as pc, (if you're finding this is not the case dl the hide user agent app!) apps to access website features we already have are redundant.

Have you already opened the "app" called "ProgramManager" on your N900?
Also adding extras-testing gives you plenty of choices...
