Okay, that's an easier way to do it too. (I'm used to the command line, obviously :P) - this means you are indeed out of date, somehow. Be patient, and an update will hopefully show up eventually.

for some odd reason, putting the prompt into xterminal shows
"Version 0.1.1-5"

conflicts with what is seen if i go into application details when i try to uninstall

Go back to terminal, try:
sudo gainroot
apt-get upgrade

DON'T just blindly say 'yes', unless it only mentions libqfacebook. There can be instances where that does dangerous things you don't want.

No. But you can do this with Facebook support for the N900, from Nokia.

See also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC63Ywlf3I4

This requires you have the official (Nokia) desktop widget/etc installed.

i'm not sure if this is "only" libqfacebook, but here's what it says:

"The following packages will be upgraded:
gstreamer-tools
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-extra
gstreamer0.10-tools libqfacebook
4 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1358kB of archives.
After this operation, 201kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? "

Looks pretty safe. I'd say: go for it.

(But keep in mind that only you can make that decision, worst case you'll have to reflash your phone *if* something goes wrong.)

Reflashing is fairly straightforward, so it's not dangerous (except to the applications/data installed on your phone) - but this is something you *should* be keeping in mind whenever you use something in extras-devel anyway: http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel

Now, bear in mind, this isn't a likely outcome in your scenario, but I never recommend something that has even a chance of backfiring without adding a disclaimer.

@w00t Thanks - this seems to have done the trick. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Facebrick and I am please to say all is well again.
