Bluetooth throughput is 721 Kbps. Faster than serial (remember that?) but slower than USB, slower than wi-fi.

The discussion of if you can do it versus should you do it is up to the user. To sit there and idly assume that your stance is the "better option" is your prerogative; I'd rather avoid taking such an divisive stance as opposed to looking at things more realistically - not all folks are willing to use Bluetooth to transfer whole albums if given the opportunity to use something faster.

With that said, Bluetooth transfer (OBEX) isn't all that... well, new. And to dismiss it; I'd call that foolish. But it's like the third possible way I'd do a transfer using something that is faster so I don't have to be still for far too much longer. I like moving...

Anyway, there's no need to be so goshdarn "Heh, darn n00bs" or "Shuddap, Apple fanbois" blah blah... over Bluetooth transfer. It's not that serious.

Email is better. And you have a copy of the song on your computer and everything. Bluetooth is a pain because you have to scan for devices, add the device, make a password, etc... Still stupid the iPhone cant do OBEX...

well to each their own, but if somebody asks me for a song the last thing I would want to do is look for a usb cable to somehow bond our phones together even if I had the cable in my desk drawer. so IMO Bluetooth transfer is far from the third possible way I'd do a transfer in that scenario, its probably the first for me and not having that would annoy me TBH. bluetooth transfer is rather painless and dare I say quick given the fact I want to transfer one song, as U.ser suggested.

thats a fair point, but I think that's a bit of an exaggeration as to how long it takes to transfer via BT because you would have to do similar very small tasks to send an email. I would also be a little reluctant to give my email address to people if I do not know the person asking for the song that well.

Well if you're on the move with no wi-fi, you have to use your dataplan pointlessly.

Also adding, uploading, writing the address, sending and then waiting for the recipient do download them takes much longer than direct BT transfer.

There's really no excuse and this conversation is pointless.

What am I missing here...?

Reading about the BT transfer discussion above, I'm tempted to say something silly like "Oh, those maemo users are used to waiting anyway *G*"

Why is there always *****ing and defending about the iphone? Look at it from a neutral point of view for once.

- It is expensive? It's new, has good customer suport, virtually bug-free software, it is popular. But it is not really your own, and considering the specs arent that awesome, there are phones that do vitrualy all the iphone does for far less money. If you were Jobs, you'd charge no less.

- It is killing technology? It limits the user in all kinds of ways, and with Apple trying to monopolize technology it will never be the phone that can do more than it's competitors. Although Apple will never control the market, and as far as I know technology does not get worse globally. It can, personally, if you buy a handset that limits technology in some ways. Sometimes, Iphone can even innovate and stimulate other manufacturers to make better hard/software.

- It is user friendly? Certainly. It is somewhat personal for this matter, for example basic handlings in meamo are a piece of cake for end users, but iphone seems more user friendly. What isn't user friendly is that it is not for the geeky users who want to push their phone/OS to the limits to make the phone do groundbreaking stuff, for it is so closed. Some non-nerdy people like me want it to be a geeky phone too, for copying actions and ideas the nerdy people discovered/programmed.

- Is it snappy? Yes, but on the other hand very simplistic. Not that simplisticity itself is a bad thing, many people see this as a thumbs up for Apple. It's simplicity does however limit the hackability and lacks geeky functions.

- It has most apps of any mobile platform? I did not count personally but I assume so. Personally I think that many apps you end up paying for should come out of the box, but having many apps available is not a bad thing. Do note that many apps are ebooks, farty fun for 10 seconds, and internet apps each for a specific site the inbuild browser can't handle well, or at all. But many good (third party) software is available, it has most of any platform I think.

- What does the average Iphone-consumer experiences? A snappy phone with good support that works well as an end-user phone for the average person, and about 90% of all people will think your phone is cool. Woulden't you be proud of a device that possibly cost you over 750 bucks? It is not for everyone ofcourse, but works well for the masses. Be glad people enjoy ther Iphones.

*I woulden't buy a new iphone for personal reasons, I enjoy my personal computer enaugh to not consider a new device for at least a year from now.
