Hmm, where did I say you should uninstall kernel-power? Either through apt-get or with the uninstaller?

Care to read http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=469 once again?

EDIT:
Just lunch the damn HAM, goto updates and click on "Maemo5 Update" (or whatever the name was), that is all you have to do. Meh.

Uh.
You said that you didn't see any problems with kernel-cssu packages replacing kernel packages. I gave you an example of problem. I didn't suppose that removing kernel-power is necessary, but it should be feasible.

Would you like to join #maemo and ping me, it seems there is a confusion on your side I would like to clear.

kernel-cssu packages replace kernel (aka stock) packages, not kernel-power packages. also if you have kernel-power(>= v51r1), installed kernel-cssu won't be flashed.

Uninstall of kernel-power should be done either via HAM or apt-get, not by using the uninstaller, as it(the uninstaller) flashes the stock kernel.

hxka: the scenario you appear to be providing is to remove kernel and then install kernel-cssu. this causes apt-get to resolve dependencies so that anything with explicit dependency on kernel gets removed, and anything depending on those packages and those packages...

without pulling apart the debs, not feasible at my current location, i imagine kernel-cssu's control file contains fields for "replaces: kernel" and "provides: kernel", or whatever the debian equivalent is. this means the removal is done via an upgrade ("replaces:") and as it provides the origianl package ("provides:"), the dependencies of all the other packages are still met, so they are not removed.

this mechanism is used a lot. if a package is forked because the old version is no longer maintained it prevents the scenario you describe. ethereal>wireshark, utillinux>utillinux-ng are two other examples.

edit: darn smilie replacement.
