There was nothing wrong with the old layout. If your users are suffering that much you should return to the old format and start over.
What happened to 'testing before you introduce a new layout' anyway?

Using a 770 and OS2007HE I can navigate the site fine, but the upper images, and lower images don't show up right. But the links are still clickable.
I just try to ignore it, however, I do agree that the site should be optimised for the tablets. From those still using OS2006 to OS2008
Bad idea to change the site without checking it out on older tablets.
