I noticed whilst poking around with bluetooth on my tablet that /var/lib/bluetooth contains a directory named after the tablet's bluetooth mac.

Take a look at the files called "features" and "classes" which appear to be a cache of information about devices the tablet has scanned.

*maybe* if you changed the line for your gateway's mac to list the feature as FFFF8FFE9BF90080, and "classes" for the gateway to be "0x50020c" then it would allow you to choose that gateway as a phone?

Should it ?
It connects but the icon remain the classic not-connected one.

It's a bluetooth connection, not WiFi, so the WiFi icon cannot be lit. The bluetooth icon is lit instead. I don't think this can be changed by anyone outside Nokia.
