Hi,

first of all I want to thank you for programming irreco! I use it with the irtrans ethernet device and it does a great job as the one and only universal remote control in a modern hi end-equipment that ist able to control a UPNP-renderer (in my case a Linn Accurate DS via Mediastreamer) and all the other hifi-stuff with one device (N800).

It would be great, if you could add an auto-repeat option for the buttons, i.e. for the hard-keys. So contolling volume would be much more pleasent.

So it looks like the only way to control a dvd player, tv, vcr, sattelite reciever, etc with Irreco is to use the IRTrans ethernet to IR device. Has anyone been able to find something less expensive that will plug into a pc's usb port that can send and recieve IR signals compatible with consumer electronics at a range of about 10 to 20 feet? I'd be interested in working up a tutorial because I'm a bit confused so far.

Hi, irreco looks very interesting.

Does anyone know if the software would work with the global cache products as it does with the irtrans over a network. The globalcache GC-100 boxes will learn and hold an IR library and can import Pronto CCF files which is useful. Alternatively a translator to convert .ccf files from remote central into irreco would be amazing as irreco and irtrans seem to work so well together. these boxes are reasonable in cost and can do contact closure also

I think I might be on to something. Since Irreco is compatible with LIRC, it might be possible to use EventGhost (http://www.eventghost.org) to control your tv, vcr, dvd player, amp, etc via Irreco. EventGhost has an LIRC plugin. It also has plugins for a number of IR transceivers. My laptop is always on in the living room so I just need to get an IR Transciever for about 50 bucks and attach it to my laptop. Then Irreco should be able to send the remote commands to whatever device I want. EventGhost seems necessary because WinLIRC doesn't support usb ir transcievers. There also is the option of just running EventGhost and using the built in webserver plugin to create a web page remote control.

I have some questions regarding themes...
could you go into more detail on minimum theme requirements.
I am trying to test out what some button styles look like and I am having no luck getting them to show up in the theme browser

I am trying to draw a keypad. I put the buttons in a folder called irreco on my mem card as indicated in the docs. I created a lowercase folder called testtheme then put some buttons in there... no luck What am I missing?

Irreco looks for .bstyleconf files in /media/mmc1/irreco and /media/mmc2/irreco folders. All subfolders are ignored, so you should put all filed into the irreco folder. That means irreco will not look into testtheme folder. Sorry

Currently Irreco is not very good at handling themes. Themes are more like a set of buttons that all have theme name as a prefix to the button name.

So I recently got an N800. I've been looking for an app to help me control my home theater stuff (LCD TV, projector, dvd player, xbmc xbox) I've found the web browser for xbmc but haven't found any good interfaces with big buttons. If I install Irreco on my N800, what software do I need to install on my WinXP-sp2 desktop to control say a USB-UIRT? I've seen the videos on adding buttons and such for Irreco and I like the simple way it looks. But it obviously needs to interact with a backend/server type machine to send the codes out the USB-UIRT.

Someone also mentioned EventGhost a couple post ago, how exactly would that interact with Irreco?

IRtrans looks cool and would keep me from running another computer 24/7 and just keep my switch on, but are they really over $200??

If you couldn't guess by the apps I'm looking at, I'm trying to stay as cheap as possible (free apps are great!)

After a lot of research I've found the best solution for me is to use EventGhost along with it's own webserver plugin. I also bought a usb-uirt from http://usbuirt.com/. USB-UIRT is 50 dollars US. I looked for a week for something cheaper but this is the cheapest way to go that is supported by EventGhost. This plugs into my laptop and points at all of my home theatre equipment. You might be ablle to use LIRC for windows but this would entail you making a serial port ir transciever of which I don't have the electronics skills or a serial port on a laptop. LIRC for Windows doesn't support usb devices. So far I've made a web interface for my dish network hd dvr and am working on one for my denon amp and tv. Essentially I just browse to my laptop from the web browser and I can tap whatever buttons I want to control my sat reciever. There is a good beginners guide on the eventghost home page. You will have to look up the webserver guide by typing webserver eventghost in google. It's in german but the screenshots give you a good idea how to set it up.

I installed EventGhost on my desktop, but I don't have a USB-UIRT yet put I wanted to see how easy it was to set up button but man that is not a very intuitive program. The web plug-in is the main thing I'm interested in and the only tutorial or instructions are in german!! Is there really no one in the US that has set it up and documented it? I don't want to spend $60 on the usb thing if I can't even figure out how to create the first few buttons...

So I installed Irreco onto my N800. I go to start the app, I get the little loading screen and then nothing!! Is there something else I need to do to get this to work?

I'm thinking of making a tutorial once I finish my project up with it and I should be able to upload all my web pages I make for it. The web server is a nifty little plugin. You basically make an event in EventGhost and give it a name like "HTML.TV_ON" or anything you want. You then create a link in your web page linking to "index.html?HTML.TV_ON". The initial page on the web server is always called "index.html"
