Ah, they got smart and killed the wire. Someone earned their paycheck.

EDIT: it's weird-- mullf's post about that didn't show up for me (along with a few others) until after I posted this...

Ah. Now its owned by the big bullies. At least I consider Comcast part of that group. So much for being an alternative for HS*PA.

Plus Clearwire still has the word "wire" in it, which to me connotes a land connection. I hear Clearwire and I think "fiber".
Its invisible

Break "Xohm" into "X Ohm", and you get "no resistance". That resonates IMO.
The 'X' in a name attracts too. It has a strong character (roman 10, symmetric, and some more vague ones).

For older people it looks like abacadabra though. And non-techies don't know what an Ohm is.

It's almost as if they decided to replace the Xohm brand with Clear (to me, it sounds like a Window cleaner) months ago

Clear seems to be Portland-only. XOHM is Baltiless and DC.

Oh well, some asses out there are making some big messes and over complicating things. I just hope that whatever the new **** is called its still 2.5 GHz so my USB XOHM Adapter and N810WE still work.

It'll be interesting to see how the WiMax landscape looks once this dust settles.

Clear's spectrum is 2.5 GHz. However, I don't know about the hardware. I'm still waiting for news on whether the N810WE will work on another network, such as DigitalBridge. Anyone know why the N810WE is not WiMax certified?

From playing with the device, along with the XOHM USB Adapter and XOHM's connection manager, it seems that neither care about what WiMax network they connect to (possibly because this name change was planned from the beginning?) as long as the frequency is the same.

I live in Portland and spoke with Clear about coverage, I specifically asked them if my n810 wimax tablet would work with the service they currently offer in Portland. The response.... "not at this time" so i asked if it was ever going to work with my tablet, he said by May it should all be good to go.

So they block the tablet? Thats lame! Can your tablet at least see the network?

unfortunately not. i've tried scanning at home, work, downtown and nothing. so i'm guessing their wimax service works at a different frequency than the n810W, and they'll be working with multiple frequencies in may when they set up more towers etc?

i did play around with their website and punched in my zip code, confirmed my area was in service, selected a monthly plan, then selected i have my own equipment. Then it was asking to put my device's mac address. I was too chicken to go through with that step.

look what i found at clear's website:

Your Clearwire connection is very secure. That’s because Clearwire wireless technology uses OFDM transmission protocol, featuring a design standard that includes secure wireless data transmission. Wi-Fi operates on unlicensed 2.4GHz frequencies, making it vulnerable to scanning and packet interception. Clearwire operates at licensed 2.5GHz frequencies. Licensed frequencies and OFDM make for a very secure connection.

Any ideas why i can't get wimax detected with my NIT?
