Right, but isn't the clock speed of the gpu on the 3GS running at 1/4 of that, thus creating 7 Mpoly's as opposed to N900s 14 Mpoly's?

So... would anyone else be super amped to play patapon on their N900?!

I agree with the above,
The 3gs, has nothing on the n900 regardless of hardware, its underclocked from what i've been told. (And why the rollercoaster game made us all wow) and were running in twice the res aren't we?

There are some very adventurous ideas here, i hope some come to success!

Let me have a shot a this:

Natively, the N900 COULD run PSP games. Just look at Bounce, looks as good as any PSP game.
EMULATION is different. It requires 3 times as much power as the original thing you're trying to emulate. Which the N900 does not have.

While I understand (and historically share) the fascination with running emulators on the N900, I've recently started to wonder whether it's worth the effort. There two related, but separate things that have caused this shift in perception.

Firstly, I played bounce evolution and angry birds.

Secondly, I tried out vgba and Vulture's Eye and The Ur-Quan Masters.

I greatly appreciate the great effort that has gone into bringing us all of these apps, I invariably found the ones designed specifically for the N900 more enjoyable. I think by focusing too much of our community's energy on emulating older systems we risk stifling the N900's potential to stand as a credible gaming platform in its own right. We need original apps designed to take full advantage of the N900's many virtues while keeping in mind its limitations. I submit to you that emulating other systems rarely does either.

So, as previously mentioned by this sweaty man (albeit in a slightly different context), developers developers developers will make or break a platform. I would like to encourage our (often very talented) developers to spend more time producing original games, designed from the ground up with the N900 in mind. I'm even prepared to pay for them.

Honestly - I think emulation is the way to go with n900. N900 and maemo will NEVER be nearly as widepread as Iphone/Ipod Touch so there will never be the same kind of motivation to develop native games for n900/meamo5. Perhaps with qt and other similar cross platform pipelines, we will see some more games.

And what comes to psp-emulation: forget it! It's insanely impossible PSP runs on different architecture so we'd need A LOT more (3-6x) power and it runs those games at almost 1/4 of the resolution. It just can't be done.

There is a beta for windows (Potemkin), so why not with a little (ok a lot) of work can this not be possible on linux/maemo?

If I am completely missing the point here, feel free to let me know, but I think, if it is at all possible, it should be looked into as it would be very very nice to have
Screw the psp, I want a PS3 and Xbox 360 emulator... Or at least a PC game emulator to play crysis at max... (sarcastic here).

I've read on a post from Zodttd himself that emulation requires a processor at least 5-10x as powerful as the original processor, 5 being with very good code, and 10 being with pretty good code.

The power is in the N900 to do it, I'm sure its processor is at least 5x as powerful as the PSP's (Gaming systems use surprisingly weak CPUs and GPUs) but the programming talent and/or time isn't there.

When the pandora comes out we'll see some pretty good programmers making emulators for very similar hardware and software which should be easily portable to the N900. I'd wait for that before expecting anything extraordinary to happen emulation-wise on the N900.

i know this can be done because this:

is almost similar to n900's keyboard!
