Hauppauge HD PVR. I have tons of HD files thanks to it. Don't tell any of the cable companies though.

Ah OK. Thats 1080i not 1080P. It also uses AVCHD which is not the most portable of formats at the moment. Still looks like a nice toy to take backups of my blue rays

The current codecs out of the box are picky, but I can get more to play than not from these types:

1. avi
2. divx
3. mp4
4. wmv
5. mpeg

That alone has four more than Android or Apples can play

The two things I would like to see released to the noob level repository are a codec pack and an EQ. Both are coming, just a question of "when".

Could somebody answer the "when" part?

Yep! Not sure how or why, but the same MP4's that looked good on Droid, look great on the N900. I thought Droid looked great before seeing the same files on the N900.

Snarky remarks will definitely make it better... yeah.

Seriously, it states *.avi right there. He was not misled. Out of the box, he did not get what he thought based on trying to inform himself from the Maemo website.

It's not like it came from nowhere. It's an expectation that came from the site itself. Now... it's one that surprises me, but with Mplayer and VLC both in either testing or extras-testing, it'll be a very short time that this is not a spot where people will have grievances.
