Just a quick update...I made it to Philly finally, and again w/the Internet2.voicestream.com APN ($10/mo.), I'm getting 2.9Mb download and 1.8Mb up, in the Central/Girl's High area on Broad street. That's 3x higher than what I was getting in MD/DC area.

So it looks like the $10 "web2go" plan will benefit from the 7Mb roll out. Problem is that speeds and latency could be better if traffic wasn't being routed thru Kansas. I wonder if the epc.tmobile.com APN routes from device's location.

Can anyone with epc APN confirm where speedtest.net reports your location?

with epc.tmobile.com APN, I seem to get IPs in the 208.54.4.x subnet. I can't tell exactly where speedtest.net thinks I am, but it picks an LA, CA test server for me and the picture on the map for me looks like it is just north of the test location along the CA coast.

Ah, I see where it says "Server: Los Angeles, CA Distance: <50 mi"

Ok, I just got off the phone with TMo, and had my plan switched to the $24/mo "smartphone" plan. Now the "epc.tmobile.com" APN works for me, and it has me "closer" to my true location. Internet2.voicestream.com APN also works, but again, it puts me out in Kansas.

Ping times on speedtest.net are still really high at ~240ms for either APN. Best DL speeds for me (here near Baltimore) are ~800Kb, for both APNs. I was originally on the TMo "Shadow" web (I know, I know), and was told that it was "limited", but again, I was able to hit 3Mb down in Philly.

FWIW, I was also told that, "the Internet2 APN was less used, and is probably the 'newer' one". I'm going to go outside to see if that helps with reception as I had trouble inside at my dad's in Philly. I still have full bars inside my house but you never know.

Based on what I'm seeing, there is no reason at all to get the more expensive plan (other than adhering to TMo policy ). No noticable difference in page browsing, but ping times are actually "worse"...was getting ~150ms on cheaper plan.

Quick update on my switch to "smartphone" plan:

- Now all (3) APNs (epc/Internet2/wap) work on $24/mo "smartphone plan".

- Ping times normal again ~150ms to 240ms.

- Only epc APN shows me as being close to my location (must be regional gateway/proxy thru Philadelphia, as I'm in Maryland)

- DL speeds still around 600Kb - 800Kb.

...I'm gonna switch back to $10 plan next month.

I am using epc.tmobile.com with the Tzones plan ($5.99). epc.tmobile.com does show the right location in Maryland with speeds of 0.70 mbs down and 0.34 mbs up. If I swicth it to internet2.voicestream.com it shows my location as kansas but with speeds of 0.98 mbs down and 0.29 mbs up.

Hi,

I hope i can answer your question here.

I bought my N900 3 weeks back. Last week I asked T-mobile USA to enable web2go unlimited ( $24.99 pm) and everything started working in couple of hours after i have restarted my mobile.

Initially i was unable to configure yahoo mail on my mobile ( Make sure you select yahoo mail and not yahoo mail plus). But after few days i have deleted that and re created new one it started working.

Hope this might be helpful.

Regards,

RR

Is it showing your "person icon" as being in Maryland or the "test server from DC" (star icon)?

The test person seems to be in MD but I know the server is in Philly.
I did another test with a server in Scranton, PA, with the epc setting and got just over 1mbs down and 0.35 mbs up.
