you're possibly being affected by this bug: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6615

Apparently if you are connecting to certain wifis with certain types of encryption, the wifi bug could be triggered, and your only way out of it is by rebooting, according to some people experiencing it.

also check this thread for more info on that bug:

just noticed my battery drained quickly from near full to half full. i had accidentally left the camera cover open so the camera was on for about two hours. no pics or video taken just in my pocket.

Well i'm just testing different use cases now. I fully charged last night. light was green. took it off the charger, set it to 2g only and turned off wifi.
checked battery, said 95%.
Used the device for about 60 minutes, installin and uninstalling some progs. turned wifi back on for a few minutes to install some bigger packages, then back to 2g. rebooted the device once. chatted for 5 mins on msn.

went to sleep and left it with gtalk, skype, msn signed on.
also left e-mail every 5 mins, and omweather every hour, although for some reason omweather says it was last updated 6.5 hours ago just now.?

looked at it just now 12 hours later, and the battery is at 46%

what do you guys think?

Only uncertainity: between the two bolds, the wifi bug could have affected battery life. Apart from that, 46% does not seem to be espeacially bad with connections at least every 2-5min.

Well I'm pretty sure the wifi bug is not affecting me, because on the previous nights, I've put the n900 in offline mode, and when I wake up the battery has not drained at all. When I've had it on wifi always connected with moderate use I still get about 9-10 hours out of the battery with a full charge..

I don't see the point for some people to limit their internet usage, not getting connected all the time, kill the 3G connection just to save battery life. What's a internet tablet for then?

Admit it, N900 battery life sucks.

It's built for heaving surfing, internet usage so naturally I expect the battery life to last longer than what it offers now. Try online with the device for few hours and see how fast your battery life depletes.

If you want to just 'make some calls, sms a bit, open some web sites' my old Nokia N71 can do that too, want to trade?

But I agree on the unnecessary fancy widgets sucking the battery life, and try to reduce the brightness too. (then again, how to appreciate a 267 ppi resolution? :P)

The battery on the n900 only dies fast if you use widgets and online alot. If you're a person with just phone service then the phone wont die fast. I used my n900 for internet a lot so it dies. Only way to extend the battery life is to disconnect your internet from wi-fi or t-mobile connection. If you were to run 3g make sure it is not on dual mode.

I'm at 36 hours with 25 percent battery left. frequent texting, phone calls, and internet usage. no email synching and just the weather widget with 4 hour sync intervals. Only 2.5g at my house these past 2 days. fwiw.
