Great!

It's only one thing missing: The code should test itself to add only sms when they does not exists on the phone to avoid duplicates.

I added to the first post updated version of smsimporter, that should automatically detect delimiter.

Everyone who has messages in the wrong order after importing old sms messages, could you please try export messages in the device using smsexporter tool, delete all messages and then import it again? I recommend creating backup of all messages using Backup application before doing this.

I have my .csv and (updated) smsimporter files in /home/user directory but when I execute the run command it gives me the segmentation error.
I am skipping the command to copy smsimporter and the csv file to MyDocs and trying to run smsimporter directly from home/user directory.
I have confirmed my csv file is separated by Semicolons.

What am I doing wrong?

first of all, thank you for providing us with the possibility to transfer sms to the N900. Good Job, keep it up!

I did everything as described, but I revived the following error:

~/MyDocs $ run-standalone.sh ./smsimporter sms.csv
/user/bin/run-standalone.sh: line 11: ./smsimporter: Permission denied
Can someone help to resolve this error?

Thank you!

After chmod +x smsimporter please enter ls -l.

Is there now a x in the File attributes?

When not the chmod command was not successful.

LS - L (in small capitals)

When the chmod doesn't take affect, then your're on the FAT32 Partition. Here you can't run programms. You have to move the smsimporter and smsexporter using mv to /home/user/ or create there before a subdirectory using mkdir.
You can use cp instead of mv to copy the files instead of move them.

But please, be careful. You can damage your device this way very fast!
