I haven't used the Conversations Inbox in a long time and I haven't had nearly the issues with this that I used to. Try removing it and see what happens.

Of course, hildon-home can crash by itself :-).
This explains why see we several icons disappear. I think that there may be more than one widget that triggers the issue but it is hard to know for sure.

What I can say is that I noticed that when I have a lot of unread messages in the Conversations Inbox that the N900 behaves very sluggishly (severely affecting Media Player and Firefox) and an increase in the number of times I see widgets disappear.

From my findings and the early reports from others I think we should consider raising a bug against the Conversations Inbox.

Yup, mine too on random occasions. Only over the last few days though.
When I go to replace them they all go back into their rightful places, no matter what screen I add them from. And while I'm in the widget menu I see things like "Cairo Calendar"; "Cairo Clock" etc.

Just for diagnostic purposes, I'm going to disable all 3rd party widgets and add them one at a time over a few days. As soon as they all do a runner I'm guessing it's the last one added that's the culprit.

Be an idea if we all did that and then compared the outcome.

The "Cairo" problem's been here before, too. It's happened to my N800 several times, but I never took the effort to find out what it was.

Maybe it's an internal name?

My widgets started disappearing after updating kernel-power to version 30. I had no problems with previous versions of this kernel (last updated a week ago) but now everything is crashing when I make a call. I have read about the 125MHz bug and made sure that 125MHz is disabled as mentioned on the wiki, but its still happening.

Put the stock kernel back on for now and everything is ok.

I've always been using the stock kernel, and I still encounter this problem occasionally (maybe once a month).

That doesn't rule out that the OC kernel wasn't the cause of your particular situation, though.

I KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS.

this is in relation to the issue of hildon-home/desktop stop responding. when you press a icon on the desktop there is a huge delay after a few days for some reason. this is a huge bug they are trying to figure out which is one of the reasons why PR1.2 is being delayed. when hildon-home stops responding it crash's and closes all the widgets. if it didn't crash the desktop will be unusable as something is leaking or using all the resources and a restart doesn't fix it.

also a post from 'chemist'

To pick up on Texrats advice...

Please be aware of that HK version is some kind of different to the global version so there maybe other things they have to look at for the global one.

Asking again and again for explanations wont help as you wont get much more than already released.

Nokia has a demand of working PRs so it might take some time to fullfill this. As already mentioned in the email, there are some bugs not easy to track down. I am currently investigating in hildon-home hickups which take about 2-5 days to occure so to determine which of the 3rd party programs is causing it takes weeks of testing already. He wrote about longterm issues and maybe they got a way to get something like home mess up in a shorter time but still it will take weeks to test and fix.

If you like to have your phone broken or bricked because of a leaked PR's RC this is ok with me. Maybe there is no closed community test for PR1.2 as Nokia does not want to take the risk yet. Have you thought of that they may bricked devices while testing and decided to not release yet?

Please chill out on the PR1.2 topic. We all have to wait! Posting off-topic and Nokia requests all over the place doesn't help any one but keeps the moderators busy.

***on a side note. if you are having a unresponsive desktop, do this in xterminal

sudogainroot
killall hildon-home
killall hildon-desktop

you might loose all your widgets
