ABI vs source compatibility was a business decision for a closed source market.

Just so we are on the same page... Sorry to burst bubbles, but Maemo 6 is not MeeGo, and MeeGo is not a uniform platform so having 'it' will not guarantee you anything. In those terms, official support for either is not as relevant as it may seem at first sight.

Neither is community support. It has yielded nothing as far as the OS goes. Only the applications that go into it might get some updates.
No community SSU, no TI 3D drivers, no Mer that'll replace Maemo... yeah. Community support has given me updates for DialCentral, for parts of RTComm... but that's not OS specific.
People want official support so they will not feel left behind. It's not that it will bring anything new to the table other than lessen the buyer's remorse that we're witnessing. And that's not exactly a bad thing.
The community delivers better apps, so far downright abysmal on supporting the OS.

Well TI 3D drivers were just released recently (like this month I think)..but yeah it's pitiful that the community here does a better job of supporting the OS than Nokia does.

Are you gonna complain also when Iphone 5g comes out and you can't use it's holographic display or something like that? ... did 3g buyers complain when 3gs came out with better processor and 3.5g connection?

...I hear and see the fears, but for some reason, much of this seems incredibly blown way off base...

as many said, if you are not happy with the n900 NOW, sell and return it and tell your friends not to buy nokia
instead, buy andriod, apple, bb or whatever, nokia will only listen to sales figures
