Oh and...., it's only happen about three times! I've had my n900 for almost a year I think...., so, it's a error I can live with consider the low probability.

Uhm ... commands are quite simple and do not take much time to execute.
I had something like 15-20 active and complex Beecons on one desktop at times and I noticed hildon-home unresponsiveness only in cases of long running commands or scripts fetching a large amount of data from the internet through gprs

My other active widgets are:
* calendar
* ip address
* foreca
* conversation
* Personal data plan

As the original poster, I can proudly report back that this problem went away after I drastically reduced the amount of DECW items I had on my desktop. Now I only have the following DECW items and have experienced no problems over 2 weeks:

Battery, Uptime, IP Address, and RootFS Free.

I got rid of all the other DECW items and now my desktop items no longer freezes, and everything runs like a champ!

You don't have to reboot.. just use "pkill hildon-home" in your xterminal and it is good again.

Also.. i do not think this have with DECW to do. It might be this but i do not think it's the original cause of the problem. Then it should be happening for everyone all the time. And that is not the case.

I think it might be a dps or battery issue.
