we are also talking about this solution on a french forum, but here the way to find the file is "under subfolders of Documents and settings", not ProgramData, or the simplest is to launch a search.
so upload file here : http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
then have just to replace the file RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin instead the same one find and enjoy

never do it myself, if it doesn't work here's the commands : http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

EDIT: Downloaded the image from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
I just hope it's the same that the updater uses (for me, the global image should be the right one). I placed it in the updaters folder, I finally found it. Since I'm an XP user, the folder path for me was:
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rx-51"

Hope it help! Updating now with NSU!

do this....

1. Downloaded (http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php)
• flasher-3.5.exe
(http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-d....5_2.5.2.2.exe)
• RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin
(http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N...ED_MR0_ARM.bin)
• RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
(http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N...MC_MR0_ARM.bin)

2. I installed the "flasher-3.5.exe"
3. I then moved
"RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin"
"RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin"
To the directory where I installed the flasher (Default is C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5).
4. I then done a full backup of my N900 using the backup tool on the phone and moved all my stuff on to the memory card.
5. Ensure the battery is at least half full.
6. Unplug charger cable and switch off the device.
7. Open the Command Prompt (Start then Run or Windows Logo key + R) and type "cmd" then press Enter (this will open a black window).
8. Change the directory to the Flasher's path by typing in "cd "%ProgramFiles%\maemo\flasher-3.5"
9. Hold the u key on the device keyboard and connect the USB cable at the same time.
10. Run the following command by typing:
"flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f"

After this completes

11. Run the following command by typing:
"flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R"

The flash will take around 1 minute after which the device will reboot.
The bright Nokia screen will come up on the screen with the USB icon on the top right followed by progression dots with yellow LED blinking for a few seconds
And you’re done. Welcome to the world on 1.2

I have the same problem and tried to remove pc suite and use ovi suite and it did not work. Ovi suite does not even recognize my n900 even though nokia says it should. This is getting really annoying nokia. The really annoying part is where your website always leaves the very last little tiny bit of the download of nsu or ovi suite or pc suite or whatever the hell you choose to download from Nokia at the very last moment last tiny bit won't download and that causes software failure when using nokia pc software cause your pc just gives up saying WTF? but if you use firefox you can wait 5 minutes for that "I can't finish downloading the very last tiny part of this s***" and just hit pause downlaod in downlaod mamanger and hit resume and it will finally finish the download.

Please read my earlier post about both the problem and the solution for the Nokia Software Updater. It actually WAS a server problem. You have to download the image manually and place it in the folder where the updater tries to download it to. If your Ovi Suite doesn't recognize you N900, it could be because you have the 2.0 version (which strangely enough didn't support the N900, although the nokia site claimed it did). There's been some talk abou that in some threads here. I guess it could also be if you have a really old Ovi suite...but doesn't sound too likely.
