To the OP - your post seems to indicate a revelation but I'm not sure what you think it might be.
I only have the option of choosing 2G, 3G or dual from my status area and although there is a mild increase in battery life with 2G it is still nowhere near what you are reporting.
The only widgets/running things that use internet with any regularity is default mail client checking gmail every 30min + the weather widget.
I can easily get through a day of uni/work without recharging with moderate use but no way could I make it more than 24 hours. Would love to know your secret.

I am still experimenting but my theory is one or all of these things helped.
1. Reflash with PR 1.2
2. Resetting my WiFi router, and setting it to only connect on G protocol. There is a possibility that some setting on the Wifi router was causing excessive traffic or drain on the N900 when connected to WiFi.
3. Switching from IMAP to Nokia Messaging. This maybe one big reason I think
4. Keeping the phone on 2G instead of 3G, 2G is good enough for me!
5. No widgets at all currently. I presume a widget which checks every 4 hours should not make much difference.

I just witnessed an interesting battery phenomena so I thought I should share it with all of you guys done, what worked and what didn't, it might just help you.
even timed with light load, a few hours of calling, 1-2 hours of Wifi browsing and I am getting 2 1/2 days.

"Where do I find this your wifi connection?"
Thanks, tested it. Wifi works with 10 mW, but transmit rate is a bit weaker and latency increases. It could still be worth it, if battery life increases 20-30 % with it.
Here's a screenshot from batterygraph if anyone is interested. CPU is in complete sleep when idling as you can see.

Yes, I use autodisconnect and the phone is on the 2G network almost all the time. I dont use much wifi as I have dataplan (is 3 eur/month (unlimited 384 kbps) cheap or what?), and emails are not checked. More specs:
- Wifi search interval set to "never"
- GPS disabled
- Few widgets on the desktop (weather&stepcounter)
- Bluetooth disabled
Is there anything to improve?
Where did you change that wifi transmit power?
