I am so going to wish that Apple would find a way to contain the iPhone from reflashing or even put a log file into the system somewhere that it can be detected by the iTunes and instantly disqualified the device from updating to the latest update and warranty.
But sound like impossible lol.
Yes people really care about warranty these days. You may not think you need it, but once your device breaks you'll wish you did.
With Apple, warranties are pretty much your only chance in getting the device fixed if something happens to it.
IE: glass screen crack cause you drop it
IE: battery problems (can't replace the battery yourself)
And considering the N900 has a faulty USB port that can come out, I say a warranty is pretty useful.

Lol why?? And that will never happen, as long as you're pro in the scene and know what to do and have done all your backup tasks, you'll never get into any problem. I.e, if you have done stuff like backing up your SHSH blobs, and always keep up to date with the dev teams, then u'll know there's no need to update to a firmware that breaks the jailbreak, or update to a newer iTunes that does the same.
U don't even need iTunes to sync with ur apps/games/music anymore now days, at least i don't. I download pirated .ipa or .deb files straight on my iPod Touch.
Those people are the type of careless or noobish users. Power or pro users won't need it, and even if we do, it's easy to restore it anyway. And ur example doesn't apply, dropping your phone and wanting to use the warranty because of the cracked screen will never work for any brand or company. That's an external cause, that's your problem. Warranty only works if the software or the phone itself has problems, but if you dropped it or break it then that doesn't count.
As for battery problems, that might be possible, but really that chance is pretty slim. Iphones or iPod Touches have pretty damn good battery life, you gotta admit that. The battery performs well and afaik, the number of people that have problems with the battery are almost 0 to none.

So a faulty USB port is a noobish or careless user? Interesting. . Anyway, I was just listing examples of issues that people may have (whether it requires the special care package or not).
Anyway, I have a feeling Apple has been relatively nice with the whole jailbreaking scene so far. But they could easily take out the entire jailbreaking scene with a real push on the software side (it isn't just iTunes reporting, it can be the iPhone itself reporting data back to Apple). It's not as simple as the current jailbreak methods which relies on exploits in the system. Or if they want to go down the legal route. A cease and desist letter to the team just for violation of the EULA. The DMCA exception only blocks Apple from going down the you broke the DRM route.
And then unless your "pro" enough to follow the limited mailing lists or IRC channels with the smaller dev community (a legal threat usually breaks apart these efforts once developers know that X company knows their real name) your efforts to avoid Apple's detection schemes would be made that much harder.
And considering the N900 has a faulty USB port that can come out, I say a warranty is pretty useful.

That's like asking "Is it better better to be straight or gay?"
Some will say homosexuality is immoral. But most would say "different strokes for different folks"
Some people don't need all the power and resistive touch screen that the N900 has, some people rather deal with the App Store - it's their choice. One is not better than the other - they both are different devices. It's fairly simple.

For example: N900 cannot downgrade to lower version once you've updated. You can downgrade it but your phone reception will be dead. I think this is a best way in term of protection ever.

This is a thread to list down on how better the N900 to the iphone4 (jailbreak) or what the N900 can do and the iphone 4 Jailbreak can't.
List me some good one so I can bring it up when the right time to use it. I believe other people would want to know as well.
My cousin owned an Iphone4 Jailed break and he said that who would use the FM Radio now a day? It's useless and very noisy, and most importantly it's an old Technology!! Why need FM when you can just stream off the Internet and play MP3?
He strictly said that Iphone4 is the best phone in the world, period. No other phone can ever compare with the mighty iPhone4.
And then he said the N900 is an old technology even the touch screen is crap comparing to his Retina screen.
Then he is on and on about the iMovie map tagging, HD bullcrap, hyping over his 3G connection is very fast.. The touch experience is amazing blah blah blah..
Retina screen enhancing the reading experience and iBook application is the best application ever. No other device out there can ever have this much clarity and elegance and even better than reading the real book.
It is hard to arguing with him when ever I said something he said do you have proof and do you have the reference?
So I should ask the community to give me some good run down of what the Jailbreak Iphone can't do and give me a strong point to shut those iSlave people off.

Im sure that by now you already have amazing points provided to you by great n900 users, im not a very powerfull n900 user, but i have this anecdote....
Today at work i went to the cafeteria, we have three LG huge tv's and everyone is watching something, then in the other part we have the cofe shop and they have a huge stereo on (very loud) all the time.
I was eating and my friend start talking about his iPhone, and then he asked for my phone, showed my phone he looked at it and said, "that phone is freaken gordo" (freaken fat) and then lol, i said nothing and in the tv they were showing some stupid "Marta Stuart like" show, and i change it w my phone (my tv @ home is a LG but smaller) and he freaked out, he ask how you did it? i laugh and said "if i tell you i'll have to kill you" LMAO!! then i went to the shop and put the phone next to the stereo and change to the FM Tunner and put my music, at the end he almost cry cause of his iPhone, he wants my phone now

I don't think crack screen will apply to the warranty term and condition.
Apple sell their OneCare separately anyway.

Apple sell their OneCare separately anyway. You can buy that package whenever you like. And even on an old Iphone 2G as long you still haven't opened it. But yeah I just wish they have a JailBreak spy in the OS. And cannot downgrade OS like Nokia.
For example: N900 cannot downgrade to lower version once you've updated. You can downgrade it but your phone reception will be dead. I think this is a best way in term of protection ever.
