I'm not thinking desperation, just excitement. I still haven't found any problems on my device and am only thinking every upgrade is a new Christmas :P

I have never made a backup of the device, do you think it can be the problem ?

I admit I have installed some packages from testing and devel however ...

Since my previous post seem to be lost now, I ask another time with the copy of the original post ...

I also add the fact I have obviously used the update function in the applications manager, so without success, I thinking maybe I'm not using the right repository ? any idea ?

I did update OTA and all went well. Nothing big changes seen so far. It was 18,5 MB update for me.

Settings -> about: version should say (1.2009.44.1.002). If it says that then you are current.... otherwise, update from the xterminal:
apt-get upgrade
... must be done as a
root

quality : constant 60% RF: 20

ive used these settings for years, they look and play fab on my ipod touch (1G) and perfectly when i had my 3GS, since the N900 is similar to the iPhone in terms of CPU & GPU i assumed they would play fine, but even the Nokia rep's N900 where I work has issues playing video, although he mostly has divx stuff

the videos play but damn theres a lot of dropped frames,

plus i dont really wanna re-encode over 200 movies, a lof of them are my kids stuff (disney) for long road trips,

if youve got any tips I would be very greatfull
The resolution on the two devices is considerably different. You are asking the N900 to squash and stretch the video files to fit the resolution on the screen. This is quite a bit of work so a batch conversion would be the best option. Handbrake seems to work reasonably quickly on a modern PC.

The other thing you could try prior to recoding is to disable unneeded processes prior to running the film - IM Accounts and email polling bing obvious CPU hogs.
