You are right, it is the content that is important. Katana is very good when it comes to search and read thats for sure. What I like with E-sword is the incorporated functions with both study topics at the right side and the lexicon under the bible text. For instance when you click on a verse you automaticly gets both relevant informmation from study topics on that verse and you get lexicon word explanation underneath. You even get the text if there is a biblevers as reference when you hold the mouse over that verse. It is this integration that makes E-Sword excellent to use. I understand that this would be complicated to get to work in a small handheld device such as n900 but to get crossreferences would be realy a treat.
I would love to test susch thing but I dont have good knowledge in programing and such stuff to make thing happend my self.
With greetings

No worries. I had an idea that this might have been what you are referring to. One of the ways of helping along efforts like Katana is to state what it is you are looking for and a piece of how you would like it to work. Usually speaking, someone can come along and refine things via a UX wireframe, or just go straight to the code.

Adding the kind of experience you are asking for will require some thought, but is worth exploring. If I get the time, I shall play with an idea or two and share it here. Others should contribute as well, so then we can refine the feature, and then see what the impact to Katana will be.

Keep the ideas coming, and don't be afraid to share. You never know who is listening and appreciating thoughts and comments on this effort

This sounds very good! You guys who are contributing to this community is awsome. When I bought my n900 I never thought that it has capacity to do so much. It seems almost endless possibilities.
But of course there are always ways improve. I will check back in this thread to see what ideas you might come up with. And of course I would like to tributute with testing if possible.

Hey, I have some few Brazilian-Portuguese translations in .pdb that I do not find in the repositories, neither in zip modules files to download around the internet.

If you still want the files, it will be a pleasure provide them to you.

Regarding other subject, I know that to invert colors on the screen seems a little unnecessary, but when I am reading at night, before sleeping, it would be nice to have a darker background, hence not "hurting" the eye with the clarity, or even to have a darker screen when my wife is in the bed and I don't want to bother her with the light coming from my screen.

I hope you consider this reasons.

Thank you so much for this big app that you provided to us, and God bless you everyday! Amen!

Very nice app and I use it often. Thanks all.
Can we have the following features:
1. Adding comments
2. Highlight verses in different colour
3. Read out options (like read whole chapter or certain selected range of verses)

Any possibility of youversion on the N900? Katana is great and I like that it is offline unlike youversion. However, there is no NKJV available on Katana for copyright reasons I hear but it is available on youversion (presumably because it just takes you to an online version of the text). NKJV is what we use in my church and though UKJV is close it would be good to have access to the exact same text being read.

If you have a purchased PDB version of NKJV it would work. Tried it and works.

Have you tried just loading the page in the browser? It seems to use flash and/or javascript and therefore should work okay in microb. If that doesn't work, install java using one of the tutorials kicking around and use the java version. If that doesn't work, contact whomever develops it, as i don't see any signs it's open source and asking here probably isn't going to get to the developers.

I once asked the folks at YouVersion about Maemo and other mobile platforms, they have a plan at which they are going at all platforms and that determines the availability of the application/service for them. As it stands, there is no way to take bibles that you have downloaded from YouVersion in one platform and add them to the other. They rely on the user being connected and download snippets of text as it is needed.

It is possible that they could go the route of a plugin for Katana that would do this, that would be simpler than an entire app. But, my guess is that it will be coded in Qt and come later when MeeGo is a touch more popular.

In terms of additional resources to support, a module for Logos' Biblia API/Service would be a signifiant and nice touch for Katana to go towards, and that API is open and Logos is open to seeing that happen. Again, this is another Bible service based on connectivity, not local storage, so folks here need to adjust their perspectives/expectations a bit for this.

In my opinion, it is for APIs like Biblia that Katana was developed. Publishers should have an a hook to their content, and then work with this community to create the plugin so that folks can take advantage of it. Makes sense for them financially, biblically, and technologically.

Edit: by the way, I just poked YouVersion and Logos back to this thread. You never know, God just might move their heart towards such a thing as this. It follows nicely with their goals.
