I would like a widget which re-appears automatically after a reboot of the phone.

I only have a few contacts that I use on a regular basis, and the widget is an ideal way of managing and using them.

Having to start the main app, and then install the widget is a pain, although admittedly a small pain, and would be a nice to have.

That is my only suggestion about an otherwise great app.

Thanks, Great app by the way. Oh and one more thing, if you could try do something like the regular contacts have in regards to the search, where you can type letters to locate the contact. here when you start typing the name you got to be super quick or else it will read the letters as first and start searching names with the newly typed letter and not as if its a continuation of a name you looking for.

That is what me and the rest in this thread have been calling "auto start". The question was about "respawning" and that is why I asked what was the goal?

I have a prototype running on my cell and have to say that is quite good. You will have to wait but hopefully will be worth.

Because i do not want my phone to require any manual intervention after each reboot, and i'd like to have the widget to be always in place.

What about adding presense indicators as well? If it would be there, mycontacts may replace traditional contact shortcuts forever.

That is what me and other people have been calling "autostart" on this thread. The link I gave you tells you how to enable it for mycontacts. I didn't make it start automatically by default because right now it will also show the application window.

"respawn" is one step further where everytime the application "exits" the "system" will start a new one, making impossible to shutdown mycontacts - I didn't see the need because I haven't heard of scenarios where mycontacts crash and that is why I asked you about.

We don't have presence indicators on the widget (the border color around the contact). You may need to first connect to the internet/accounts and then launch mycontacts so it detects the accounts - there is one issue that I haven't been able to find yet but mostly works.

I plan to work on both issues for the next release.

Ah! Actually i have this enabled and the first time i rebooted the widget did not appear automatically. It was just a temporary glitch, i did not have this problem since then.

I still haven't figured out what makes it stop working. I believe is some issue with Qt Mobility dealing with the internet connection changing status (if you go to the "online accounts" on mycontacts it ?always? work - it uses telepathy instead of the mobility module).

I will run some more tests and experiment with the new version of mobility just (unofficially) released for the n900.
