I want ysss (the devil's advocate) to tell me where iPhone is standing right now - only talking hacked:
Question 1:
Can I install MPlayer via cydia and the browse from mplayer to my wherever stored avi, xvid, divx on the device?
I don't know, this isn't something that I need to do regularly. I mostly download video podcasts or tv shows from iTunes for iPhone. On my last trip with an iPad, I reencoded a bunch of avi tv series (to mp4) to be loaded to iTunes.
(Much to my amazement the reencoded mp4 was about 60% of the avi size and still looks 90% as good)
Question 2:
Other video players and streaming?
For personal video collection, there is a very good video streaming app that I use on my iPad called Air Video. It comes with (free) desktop daemon (win and mac, not sure about *nix) that can live transcode and stream to the iPad (or iPhone). I can transcode 1080p mkv movies on my MacBook Pro (dual core 2.4) in real time with this.
There are numerous online video streamers too (Netflix, ABC, Hulu coming soon), some requires subscriptions or are limited to US audience only.
Question 3:
Mass storage, does it work/is it there in iPhone 4?
I'm 90% sure it'll work if jailbroken. Otherwise you're limited to SD transfer function to download pictures to iPhoto.
Question 4:
Other torrent apps besides torrentula (with a guy)?
No idea, I don't torrent on 3G.
Question 5:
rar and zip archive managers, but esp rar?
Yes, there is iUnarchiver which handles zip, rar, 7-zip, tar, gzip, bz2/BZip2, LhA and StuffIt.
Question 6:
Considering the impaired BT, can I send contact cards after hacking it?
I don't know. Most of the time I exchange vcf by email. I found it easier (can do it anywhere) and easily stored and tagged on my email client.
Question 7:
There was an app called greasepocket aiming to replicate greasmonkey, is it there yet?
I don't know. The latest desktop Safari (finally) includes add-on support though. Not sure if/when that'll trickle down to Mobile Safari.
Please consider this for fw 3.x.x (if it's available there it will probably work in 4 also).

Thanks. iPhone 4 looks pretty good but before I get one I have to be 100% sure it can replicate the things my N900 does.
So far for tethering I found MyWi that seems to be some kind of joikuspot.
The other thing I care most about is multimedia, aka movies or tv shows that I usually get from various *ahem* flash *ahem* sites where greasemonkey plays a major role.
Even if that doesn't work, various avi files are a minimum.

Why bother with Mifi if the phone can do it.
As for media I know there's mplayer and vlc but I don't know how well they work or if they can browse the file system - from what I've read so far you have to place the videos in custom folders to be able to access them :\
And, do we have hwa on mplayer with the N900?/ Are you sure mplayer/vlc don't have it on iPhone?
Also, is there no video app on the istore that can add support for more formats??

While it does the job there is much more work to be done before it becomes useable. Lets hope the developer gets motivated to devote more time to it.
Good questions I hope some one else chips in.
