Good news for me though, I have great connections in Mexico. Blam!

Update: My "bro" in Mexico City got some e-mail about it because he used to have a N97 - against my wishes - and will find out tomorrow dates, prices. Looking like I might be a N9 owner... soon-ish.

I know plenty of people who would disagree with you about the Zune. Correction--MANY, MANY people... go ahead, go Google up some news articles about the Zune and youll generally find that most people had a positive impression overall, but that the Zune just wasn't selling. Vista, on the other hand, was supposed to be (as I recall Bill Gates saying all over the place) YEEEARS in the making and it's "that good!" Mind you, I think most people were unimpressed, though. In either case, marketing didn't help one iota. Windows Phone 7, so far, hasn't actually impressed anybody--not even as much as the Zune did when it came out. I strongly suspect that without strong-arm tactics and underhanded litigation, Microsoft is unlikely to innovate or market itself into relevance. The examples I poinetd out, simply point out bad marketing strategies--yes. That's been Microsoft's marketing legacy one groaning year after stomach-churningly-awful year of their ads.

Most of what I read on the Zune have not been impressive at all. The Zune HD on the other hand I've seen many positive stuff...but then remember, there was almost no marketing for that product. As for WP7, I've seem more people impressed with the UI than anything. Not only that they have a high customer satisfaction.

At the end of the day though it is a Microsoft product, and with good reason their reputation is the platform's downfall. If it were google that had made it I bet you there would've seen a much better response. Having used it myself among many of the stuff Microsoft has produced, it is one of the best products that I've seen from them. Which brings me back to my point, if you make good stuff, and you push it with good marketing then it will prosper.

Microsoft initially brought a substandard product to the market with poor marketing....hence it didn't/won't sell. The only thing left to do now, is make it much better, and market it much better. That's that

I friggin' love my Zune. It outlasted every iPod I ever had. And the Zune software is quite nice too - better and less resource hungry than iTunes (up to 2gb of RAM in some instances, no joke)

Zune was panned by iPod fans. I didn't care.

Samsung's already won me over several times over for several reasons, but this wouldn't surprised me given some of their recent developments. Still, this is the first time I'm hearing/reading of it--so I'm skeptical. Would be ENORMOUS and BRILLIANT if true, though. Agreed.

Far enough, on all counts. I agree that a BIG part--probably the biggest--failure on Microsoft's part is its legacy of shoddy quality, square-ish blues and browns ho-hum designs and generally uninteresting products. Their stuff works, but often with problems or not very impressively. Their advertising doesn't help at all. Windows Phone 7, so far, seems to give about the same impression: "OH SHOOT--we're behind! QUICK! CATCH UP!" And in that way, they're running fast and trying to "innovate" (heheh) to catch up, but it's been an awkward heads-down gallop to do the things everyone else has already been doing just to finally reach the next mile-marker, bring their head back up to look and see that everyone else has already reached the next mile-marker or two. Burning their vendors, developers and customers with every Windows Mobile device in the past also doesn't help their cause, as you rightfully suggested.

Despite your well stated points, I don't think I'll hold my breath 'till Microsoft gets ahead.

This thread is probably the only one keeping TMO alive right now because the CSSU has no updates and there is nobody doing nitdroid it seems and we now got threads like is TMO dying etc, weird.

Samsung is indeed looking for a core OS for several things. But IMO this urge is not lead by business reasons or even technical reasons, it's more about feelings or honour or something, maybe political even. All the wrong reasons. If Samsung means this for real, they will purchase Mentor Graphics, not go after some pipe dream.

Can you explain why that would be better? I'm not sure I'm familiar with them or why that would be better.
