I recall reading that there's a way to disable flash until you click on a flash resource. Perhaps this would be a better solution than dealing with slow ads!

That is exactly what I did in the end - best compromise.

On another issue, when tryng the maps app with street view I was shocked, quite like a cultural shock... it was awesome. Too bad we haven't a proper google maps for the N900.

I assume Android has Flashblock...

[edit]Nm I guess thats what was meant a few posts back. I use Flashblock anyway, even on supercomputers (), because I don't wish audio/video to be started by default.[/edit]

The Android browser is quite limited, and as I understand it, doesn't support user-installed extensions/plugins as of yet. Flash, though can be disabled until requested, which serves a similar function as that of adBlock.

The browser, while good, still lacks many features common with other browsers. I'm personally hoping that Chromium replaces the current android browser as it is evolving at leaps and bounds, is wonderfully compliant, and has many optimizations on tap that would make it run quickly -- even on a mobile device. Beside speed, the biggest problem would be memory, but utilizing the Android process scheme, each background tab could be state saved to reduce memory consumption. I'm sure there are other ways to optimize as well.

Of course, there's always Fennec as an alternative browser. It's shaping up quite nicely from a slow (performance wise) start, but has a long way to go still:

Yes! Android has faxing apps, and there are online services that any Android device (eg. Galaxy Tab) should be able to use.

One such app is Mobile Fax by burrotech. It allows you to send faxes from documents on your Tab, or from pictures that you have snapped with the camera! http://www.androidzoom.com/android_a...free_ewqo.html

Of course, online services like http://www.gotfreefax.com/ should work as well from the browser.

Just to let you know, I've used neither of these services and cannot attest to their quality!

Here's a good article that was just posted that answers a lot of questions in and around the Tab:
http://technologizer.com/2010/10/07/...ds-on-preview/

The one bit of information that turned me off was this:
Will the Galaxy Tab support Bluetooth HID? Will it support Bluetooth headsets or keyboards?
No, and no, said Kim Titus, a Samsung representative. Looks like Samsung’s keyboard dock accessory is your only option.
This is a letdown, and if true, a blatant ploy by Samsung to force consumers purchase their (overpriced) keyboard accessory. As I understand it, Android2.2 has Bluetooth HID built into the OS, so it would have had to be knowingly removed from the Tab's OS, which wreaks of artificial gimping.

I don't think it's enough to get me to forgo the tab, but it's a feature that would have added tremendous value to the tablet. I can't see myself purchasing the keyboard dock: I'm far too cheap, and more importantly, why buy a peripheral that I already have? I will thus have to wait for another solution to present itself.

Hopefully the community will come through on this one, as this feature seems fairly important. As stock Froyo is being loaded on the Galaxy S, I a have a feeling that the Tab will receive similar attention. It's sad though that community involvement is necessary for a non-gimped Froyo build.

Of course, the representative could be wrong about this detail.

Something seems odd about the Galaxy Tab not supporting 'BT keyboards and headsets'. As I understand it, Samsung has included phone capabilities in non-US Tabs. So, without BT headset support, the only option would be speakerphone and wired headset. Both of which are impractical when walking around.

Also consider the following official image that clearly shows a BT headset use-case:

Something tells me that the representative didn't really know what was going on. In short, I'm confident that the Tab will still have Bluetooth HID -- at the very least for headsets.

I don't think HID is for headsets. it's more for mice and keyboards. I think most bluetooth headsets use H2F (or something like that) or A2DP.

Either way if the hacking community is big it won't be a problem.

Indeed, you are correct, thanks! I completely forgot about the distinction. Headsets use Bluetooth HSP, so it's entirely possible that the Tab supports HSP but not HID.

However, the spokesperson clearly stated that there would be no BT headset support, which is clearly wrong. So his/her credibility is in question regarding the HID claim as well.

Here's more info if anyone's curious:

Time will tell.
