I agree, a shell cracks easier than an egg. But the screen and back were supposed to be made out of glass.

Last I checked, metal makes a great antenna. And having the 3G antenna being exposed and not buried inside and hidden behind metal, glass, plastic, circuitry... is also a good thing. I'd have to say the burden of proof otherwise is what you'd have to show me there... it's on you.

is the iphone 4 out?
Yes, it is. Played with one all day today actually. I'm in the US, btw.

They did a preview of both didn't they?
Not of the Galaxy, which isn't out yet. Specs for the ppi (pixels per inch) hasn't come out for the Super AMOLED yet. I'm sure it'll come out soon in all markets by the end of this month. Don't quote me there though - the North American announcement might end up different.

AFAIK they both release this month Galaxy S in the UK even sooner. calling it the best screen you could get on a phone when you can't get the phone yet and there is a better screen already is rather silly.
Silly or not, one thing is wrong with your equation in regards to what I have access too.

I can touch an iPhone 4 right now, while I cannot do the same for the Samsung Galaxy S. The comparison, as I've stated before, is inevitably going to happen.

Then we'll get to see just how much BS Jobs was pushing - which, isn't saying a lot since he BS's about pretty much everything already.

Actually, you don't have to jailbreak for access to the file system any longer, but You do have to use a separate app... which is still ultra-BS in my book.

Behold, PhoneView. Access to the entire iPhone/iPod Touch filesystem.

Q: Once I copy files to the iPhone, can I view/access the files through the phone?

A: There's no way to access PhoneView's copied files via the iPhone's interface. However, PhoneView can copy the text from many file formats directly into the iPhone's Notepad program.
Pretty limited usefulness IMO, but I guess it is something.

It's a shame Apple just doesn't make a "Expert" or "MessupmyPhone" mode. Heck even make it so if you activate it, it sends a notice to Apple and they're no longer responsible for warranties on it if that's their concern.

Speed wise, it beats the 3GS, but not by as much as I expected. The display... I hate to repeat the marketing BS, but it's damn nice. The camera though... not as nice. The Flash went off even in what I thought was pretty decent lighting.

I'll have a chance to play with it tomorrow - had to give the N900 back today too since my colleague is back in the States, so I had them side by side and the display on the iPhone is a huge leap from the the 3GS and N900.

It feels a ton more sturdy than I thought, not a lot of chassis flex - I cranked down on it a few times. The glass doesn't exactly feel like glass to me. It's hard as hell, but feels... dunno. Like it's polished plastic actually. I have a sapphire crystal watch and they don't feel similar in terms of hardness.

The overall build is much better than I expected in terms of the stainless steel and the build. I didn't have a chance to try FaceTime - other folks in the office have yet to get theirs yet and I've yet to get my version for testing.

The downparts... I don't trust the glass. Sorry, I just don't. We did pull a penny across it, and not one scratch. The front part was also pretty darn sturdy... survived a two foot drop flat down. I've seen the reports that show that if it drops on a corner, it's toast. To be honest, I believe those reports 100%. And bad part, it's not just the glass that will be replaced. It'll be the digitizer, LED, et al just for a chip or crack on your screen. That's a step back to the 1st gen in terms of bullcrap that needs to be replaced.

The battery? I'll say it now. 38 hour my ***. No way. Just after using a few apps, photos, video editing, calls and browsing the web and using (what they call multi-tasking, which, isn't bad, but it's not TRUE multi-tasking) I dropped it a solid 10% from 97% to 87% in an hour or so.

But I'm willing to bet that it would last a full work day. Idle, a full day plus. But 38 hours? Nope. Will not believe that at all.

It's actually thinner than my 3GS. But it does lay flat whereas the 3GS does not. But that in itself is... odd. The cool part, the sides are somewhat concave so my fingers went into that groove while holding it naturally. So it's not too bad. I like the way the 3GS fits into my palm better.

Oh... another part, I placed the phone into my back pocket (bad habit of mine) and it was right side up, which meant the bottom part, which is supposed to be the bluetooth/wifi antennae I think, and I got choppy reception of wifi via Pandora. BUT... I pulled it out of my pocket, no probs.

My 3GS showed the same behavior, but worse. Guess my jeans have rivets that have been magnetized. Nobody else could duplicate that one.

The screen though, it's the best I've seen so far. The browser still sucks.

That makes way too much sense and grants users too much control. Steve isn't having any of that!

For the iOS 4, I reverted back to a stock install, haven't jailbroken my phone yet - and... which kills me is that if I restore my phone, Apple is none the wiser if I have or have not jailbroken it ever before they touch it and I revert it back.

Not one single argument from me about it. Surprised me that it did exist though.

@Dave999: I've used OS4's multitasking for half-a-day on my 3GS (iPhone 4 is 30% faster than 3GS)... some notes:

- On apps that support OS4.0, it works very well.

- I ran GPS logging/tracking in the background for a couple of hours. For all intent and purposes, the GPS tracking app (motion-x) looks and behaves as if it runs fully in the background and didn't skip a beat when switched in/out from. Unfortunately battery drain was still quite noticable

- The UI is optimized to juggle between 4-8 apps. The task switcher shows 4 icons in a (horizontal) row at a time, and you can swipe to see the next 4 in one gesture. It works very fast if you juggle less than 8 apps. More than that, I think it takes a bit longer to hunt and peck.

- Apps that don't support OS4.0 are made to act like they're compatible; they show up in the task-switcher icons listing, yet they're slower to switch in/out from because they don't take advantage of 'fast app switching' feature.
This sucks. I wish they just close and not appear as 'active task'. (I heard there'll be a mod to take care of this, jailbreak needed of course).

- I really like the folders management. It's very quick to create/delete/populate.
