Which hardware?
I have to say that maps was showing an update, but was failing, so I have removed the map application and re-installed it.
Don't know if that threw in also the new gpsd package.
Hmm... sounds familiar, I probably did that too. But map doesn't depend on a specific version (not directly at least), and I don't even see 1.0-25 packaged in the repositories.

Alright, I checked the version of osso-gpsd in my N810; the version is 1.0-23
The tablet is running the latest version of 2008 and I did indeed update the map....

EDIT: Just to be clear that's with OS2008 v50-2. So evidently the comparison for the OS upgrade is incorrect.
PinCushionQueen or ChristianK, could you check another thing:

It seems "osso-software-version" depends on osso-gpsd 1.0-25 on both of my machines (N810 and N800). So it should be impossible to have OS2008 v50-2 and not have osso-gpsd 1.0-25...

can you run "apt-cache show osso-software-version" and paste the output here (in CODE tags please).

gpsd has been upgraded from 1.23 to 1.25 in a firmware update released around December 18. See details here:

I know that but
A) PinCushionQueen and Christian K just said they are running OS v50-2 and gpsd 1.0-23
B) it would be the only thing that I can think of that could explain this all

On my replacement n810 which came with v50-2 preinstalled "/usr/sbin/gpsd -V" gives 1.0-25 and so does "apt-cache show osso-gpsd".

I did not update anything.

My osso-software-version is reported as 2.2007.50-2

EDIT: On a hunch I checked some other libraries and osso-esd is reported as 0.52-8, eg. the old version.
I updated the tablet with the nokia windows program as my tablet did not come with the new version preinstalled.

EDIT2: Checking a couple of more libraries it seems like a majority has the wrong version number, some have the new one though...

Ok, so it seems that OS2008 v50-2 image is broken (osso-software-version depends on packages that are not there) and it also seems there are several different versions of v50-2, based on what tabno said (or, alternatively his gpsd has somehow got upgraded).

I flashed immediately to 2.2007.50-2

apt-cache show osso-gpsd shows version 1.0-23

How did you flash?

Which version do you get with "apt-cache show osso-esd"?
I get 0.52-14
