Just an update (because I've been away for a while):
I'm *really* hoping to have a new release early next week with some cleanups/optimizations and LCARS icons... School + personal life have both decided to steal me away recently, but as those settle down to normal background levels, I should be able to spend time on this again! ^_^

I'm guessing you're using my 0.8 deb on OS2008, but what hardware are you using? Do you have any other custom applets running? Does it do that consistently? Does it actually APPLY the change before it crashes, or does the mute state stay the same?

I would also ask you disable my applet, change the mute state with the original applet, and then re-enable mine and try muting with that again. If that fixes it, I may have an idea what's wrong.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I don't claim to be great at C memory management, though I went over it fairly well around my 0.6 release... It's entirely possible something added since that release is causing a problem. I'll go through it again before the 0.9 release and have a few more people look at it as well. I *REALLY* want to make this a quality applet, so if anyone else has statistics on this, please let me know. Hopefully I can get some other people in #maemo to look through it as well!
First like to say this is a great app! I had the same problem as spirytsick, but a reboot seemed to help. I am running the app on an N800, and the app crashed after I had locked the screen and then subsequently unlocked the screen. The screen when white and when the desktop came back, the new applet was gone and the old sound and brightness applets returned, even though I had shut them off.

Also, just a question regarding the question of minimizing the applet by clicking to the desktop. I notice that your applet does not have the same border as the other applets. Does have anything to do with the desktop click detection? Anyway, just thought I'd mention it if it might help.

Thanks!

This sort of UI crash happens to me occasionally, especially when I type too many keys while my BT keyboard is trying to connect. To recover the applets, run control panel > panels, then just click OK. It'll reapply the settings you had before... The desktop applets also disappear, but I've found no such handy fix for them. Just go back and re-check them.

Yes, I think so, as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Yesterday I flashed good old 770 with OS2008HE, and proceeded to bring its setup to par with the N810's. While doing this I had installed the backlight plugin before I even remembered seeing the 770 mentioned here...

The fun part is that it installs and displays perfectly, going through the motions and not crashing anything. It just (as expected) doesn't change anything to the screen brightness at all :-)

LCARS version of the icon would be pretty cool. I used to run that on my 770, and was considering updating the N800 since the latest version can uninstall.

This backlight applet is awesome, I can actually get the brightness down to where I want it!

How does your applet handle the "Display stays lit" (charging/never)?

Also, how do I remove the other two applets? (I should know but forgot).
