Dunno, something might reset that on startup.

You know, the N800 has a watchdog; you shouldn't ever have to take the battery out from an actual crash. (You might if you mess up the interface (e.g. with powerlaunch) and can't SSH in (e.g. no network), so the tablet is running but inaccessible.)

Took your advice and added gconfedit. Works perfectly now. Thanks!

Anyone else having their IT's freeze to the point of having to remove the battery and everything while using the camera with this app?
I have often had those kind of hang-ups with the original camera app, so it is a bug in the original app.

Also, I find that no matter what I set, my N800 eventually defaults back to opening the Internet Chat app when opening the camera. So now I start the camera app, wait till I see the blue and red static-noise, then pop out the camera. I also pop the camera back in, then wait 5 secs before closing the app, that seems to minimize system crashes. It seems to me that this whole subsystem is very fragile in Maemo.

The simplest way is to open that web page on your tablet, click the link to download the file and when you're offered the choice to save or open, just hit open and it will start installing.
If you don't want to do that for some reason you could either download it on your tablet or download it on your PC and copy it to the tablet. Then just open up Settings -> Application Manager, and from the menu select Application -> Install from file... and select the .deb. (or just double tap it in the file manager).

It does seem to reset for me. So what I did was to put those gconf lines into a S99 init script. Works on every startup now

Excuse my admitted ignorance but I installed this and emailed a video clip to myself and the very latest WM Player 11 wont play it because of the codec issue. What good is this for the majority of people I would want to email files to since they can't view it--like my kids or family?

The videos work fine if you upload them to youTube. You could post your videos there and then tell your kids or family what the URL to see them is.

I wasn't too impressed with the video or audio quality when I tried it though.
