Applications are sometimes "siloed", even in frameworks that support multitasking. That can spell disaster when multiple apps want to make use of the same resources. Even if they launch one at a time, that doesn't prevent conflicts if there isn't at least some low-level awareness of each other's existence. By that I mean something like (example only): "Oh, I'm not the only app on the device that can interact with media. Fine. I won't lock up any media resources or leave anything of myself behind when I close that could interfere with the operations of one or more of my siblings".
I'm oversimplifying, but only because we have a diverse audience here. Application awareness should be the default behavior in any environment these days, now that we're long past basic DOS.

Oh, sure, they need to be aware they're on a multi-tasking system; I read "aware of each other" as meaning each app aware of each other app running at the moment specifically. Which would be lame and surprising, even in .NET.

let me guess you also rev your engine to redline when it's stone cold too.
I place my ipod close to my body in the winter. keeps it warm, saves the battery.

Question for anyone who has actually used an iTouch or iPhone for reading and/or movie watching:
(1) Do you have a sense as to how it would be to watch a feature-length movie on the iTouch?
To my surprise, the N800 is comfortably sufficient for the task, and my guess is that the iTouch would be too small. And do you know if it's possible to rip a DVD and get it into the iTouch in a practical way?

I have one on the car, it regularly goes below zero. I think some pixels have gone in the screen (I don't look much). Sometimes it needs a reset (about once a month), which seems to vary with the cold. It is directly connected to the car by the dock and lives behind the glove compartment (controlled by the steering wheel controls).
If I need at some stage to get a battery, I noticed that my local electronics shop has them on the racks for not much money, but I doubt it will ever matter to me.

It was fine. I watched one flying to the states once. Much better quality than the planes screen, easier to see (not to mention the sound was much better). I put it on my tray table on its little stand (that it comes with).
Other than that I wouldn't watch a movie on it, but that is because i have a full size television at home, so I use that (and I wouldn't watch a movie elsewhere that I can think of).
It wasn't too small. To get a movie on it, I ripped it with handbreak and then put it in iSquint (both free). It compressed it and copied it straight to the iPod, very practical and very easy. I think there are some one click tools to do it, but I was just using what I know. Quality was great.
I have only done that for one technical book that I needed, and it was again ok, pretty much like the palm reader (or the pocketPC one). Probably best on that one to ask someone else, as I have just used the one book, as I am more a dead tree kind of guy (I do electronic publications for a living - don't want to use them in my spare time!)
