When the film's over, we'll draw straws to see who has to walk over to qole's camp and explain the movie.

We're missing lots of smilies.

Hi all

How do you prevent the large black border around a movie. I decrypted a movie I BOUGHT and then used pocketdivx encoder to change it to divx then the Nokia mp4 converter to change it to .mp4. But it has a black border around it.

How can this be removed.

In the mean time I'll go read those threads GA posted.

@ALL

Thanks for a great thread...finally gave me the nudge to play with HandBrake(0.9.3)

My most recent settings:

Code:
Normal preset
Output Format: AVI

[tab]Picture Settings:
-anamorphic = NONE
-width/height = 576 x 352

[tab]Video:
-Codec: MPEG-4 (Xvid)
-Framerate: 24
-2-Pass Encoding: CHECKED
-Avg Bitrate: 600
-Constant Quality: 70%

[tab]Audio:
-Audio Codec: MP3
-Samplerate: 44.1
-BItrate: 128
(Kicks self - just saw the ADD button at the bottom of presets, I had been retyping everything...)

Source file 4.5GB VOB: The Matrix (Wide Screen)
(figured a true test would be the lobby scene)

Output ~740MB

Player: MPlayer or Canola

FULL SCREEN (Ok, Ok minor cropping)*
*Charter Member of the P&S P Cyclone Division

OK now for the question:

Playback is great overall, however it does stutter/pause(less than a second) ~every 30-40 seconds. Not a deal breaker....but,

How would I compensate for this?
-Lower the bitrate to 500?
-Uncheck 2-Pass?

Thanks

Snoshrk

Hello !

FIRST
... 30 to 40 seconds you say ... maybe you have something running in backgroud that eats some CPU cycles or try to acces your card ... before watching a movie, be sure to deactivate everything, especially applets or taskbar applets ... a lot of them will try to connect to internet, to check the temperature, the luxmeter, the battery, the free memory or the free space on your card ...

SECOND
I used the original media player, not canola, not Mplayer.

NOTES

1/ Hmmm ... i believe that "Matrix" is not in 16:9 ratio but widescreen ... if it's true, maybe the best settings would be 640x272 if your movie is 24 or 25 fps or 576x240 if it's 30 fps. The original framerate of you movie must be respected absolutely. But anyway, you can prefer cropping to 16:9, because letterbox is not so convenient on small screens ...

2/ What I experienced with bitrate and 2 pass encoding is that with 2 pass, when everything moves a lot, the bitrate may becomes too high for the device ... So you could try single pass at 650 kbps ... you would see sometimes blocky effects, but handbrake makes a very good job and it's not so ugly.

3/ What kind of memorycard do you use ? The faster the better, you know ... class 4 or class 6 would be nice ...

Hope you will solve your problem ... please post your findings here !

Usually when I watch films/shows I enable flight mode. This disables most of the background periodical activities (applets, plugins, RSS, mail, IM, you name it) without too much bothering. Just don't forget to exit it when you're done
