well on n95 i changed t-mobile firmware to generic firmware and had a fault with GPS, i set the original product code back on the phone before i sent it to nokia and they sent it back saying incorrect firmware on the phone. they didnt bother checking the fault.

On the discussion board a Nokia employee said the following after consulting with Nokia:

Here is how the warranty works, and is no different from any other device Nokia have sold before.
Even though this is an N900, the procedures are still the same.

As long as the software you are using, has been offered and supplied by Nokia itself (which in this case it has), and you are using it the way it was intended, and not altering any of the software packages then it will not void the warranty of the device.

The use of third party software, programs, cables.. will void the warranty though.

What does that mean?

Obviously you should restore the intended firmware for a device before sending it back for a problem with the product-if for no other reason than to verify it's not the different firmware causing the problem. I think their response was to be expected.

This is not the same case as updating the firmware with a newer version, or even reflashing the same version.
