From my point of view, the icons I have on my N900 desktop make it harder to see and enjoy the cool backgrounds I have found, so anything that gives me a better place to put them such as Quick Launch is a plus.

So I agree, who wants to stop at 2 rows!

Hello,

I just put a new version (0.4) on extras-testing:
http://http://maemo.org/packages/pac...ick-launch/0.4

the improvements I made are the follows :
  • moved control panel applet to extras category
  • fix small bugs
  • apps list sorted alphabetically
  • setting no-icon for non-setted slots
  • change ok click behavoir

There are other two requested features:
the possibility to call quick-launch (simply popup the statusbar menu) with a shortcut and the possibility to add more rows.
For the first one I'm looking how to do it ( if someone have any hint, please give me ), the second I think it's not realizable (and also a little bit "insane" )

P.S.: if after upgrading the statusbar crash, simply reboot

Best Regards,
Daniele Maio

Yes you are right. I've tried many workarounds to avoid this behavior but, unfortunately, at the moment, no one worked out (I will investigate if it depends on the HildonTouchSelector)

Quick Launch is brainstorm implementation : http://http://maemo.org/community/br...tatusbar_menu/

It's basically a statusbar item that shows four buttons each of which can be configured through a control panel applet to set a shortcut to your preferred applications.

It's on extras-testing now : http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...ck-launch/0.3/

Hello guys,

today I waked up with an idea on my mind regarding quick launch. Since I've realized that having it openable by a key shortcut or similar is mandatory, I think I've reached a solution.
For example when you open the camera shutter (so that also the others request would be satisfied) it doesn't make appear the statusbar menu (since it seems impossible, I have received no reply on that) , but, instead it make appear a simple dialog where you can choose the app you wish.
Now, why a dialog ?
A dialog can potentially contains n-icons of apps (or, moreover, all the apps you've installed in your device ), and I can add a button to run a program on-the-fly (like Alt+F2 does on standard desktop).
Other option would be make all the things live together : having the statusbar applet that contains your "more preferred" applications and the dialog that contains all (or n) apps.
Before going on to code , I would like to know what you think about it ?

Best Regards,
Daniele Maio

If you want to open the status menu by a command, install this package:
http://my.arava.co.il/~matan/770/n90...+0m5_armel.deb . After that the command
Code:
dbus-send --type=signal --session /com/nokia/hildon_desktop com.nokia.hildon_desktop.open_status_menu
opens the status-menu. The same command with close instead of open closes it.

I like this idea as well!

By the way, great app. I would lile to move it's position in the status bar as discussed in this Thread. I want to move it nearer to the top so it doesn't get scrolled off the bottom of the status bar when there are a lot of activities going on. Only the built-in functions are listed in '/ect/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins' Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks,

Fred
