I suggest everyone reads the following link because it more or less confirms what Nokia are doing with Meego and the N900..... NOTHING !!!.

I've read a lot of posts, both positive and negative, on this issue and I am still confused. I hope someone offers a decent well-explained answer to my post.

What exactly IS the future of my N900? What would you say to people who say Maemo has no future because all the resources are going to Meego. Why would Nokia support Maemo? Even if there is support, isn't it going to be extremely limited?

I understand that there will probably be a community-supported version of Meego for the N900 but what exactly does that mean? People talk about having NITDroid with multiboot on the N900 but isn't that just a fancy geek experiment (no offense to those working on it)? I don't see a fully functional version of the Android on N900 EVER. Nothing that can actually add to the usability of the phone. Does this really count as a point in favor of the N900?

Would a community-supported version of Meego be fully functional? Would it improve the N900 or would it be just the mere ability to run Meego on N900, regardless of whether the experience is better than Maemo 5 on N900 or not?

I think concerns regarding the N900's future are extremely valid and I wouldn't consider it trolling. Its not mere whining. I haven't seen any decent answers to those concerns yet. Lets just look at how things are.

Currently, I don't even know of a way to comfortably watch YouTube videos on the N900. Most websites have upgraded to Flash 10.1, which isn't supported by the N900 so all the hoopoolala about N900 having Flash support is meaningless now. IT was one of the reasons I bought this phone. ZouTube doesn't work anymore either. Digi@scene is just plain weird and slow.

The E-mail application is horrible. Push-email is impossible without Nokia Messaging.

There are still few apps in the repositories compared to N900's competitors. In the beginning, people said N900 doesn't need apps because you can do it all from the browser but can you really?

There was a lot of hype about N900's front camera and video chat capabilities but this is another half-baked feature to say the least. It is plain painful. I haven't had one successful video chat yet. Can't see the other person's video on Skype. I hate to compare but if you compare it to the front camera usage on iPhone 4, all you can do is envy. The experience is so smooth. You can swiftly shift between cameras. You can easily see the person and the person can see you without any issues!

There are many other things that I could think of right now but I hope someone answers the questions I've asked here.

make sure the other person on skype is using the latest version, I had the same experience but then in a test in my house, upgraded skype on my laptop and I could use video on my n900.

Fooled me once - shame on you, fooled me twice - shame on me.

Future is bleak IMO.. very.. After witnessing how things are handled by Nokia I am not sure I want to buy another device from them ever again. Meego UI looks great but I'll always have a lingering suspicion that support for the new device will be dropped as quickly as it was for n900. The platform is dead an all those who blindly defend Nikia and N900 in its current state are just idiots.

P.S. To those who want android on N900 after using maemo - wake up! It is a great project and all, and great respect for the folks who code it and support it, but putting android on n900 is a joke, is a leap backwards, and the dumbest decision one can make.

The Meego for n900 will be just an OS to put as dual boot or will it be completely working for phone calls, flash 10.1, etc.?
I am asking it because it was said that many improvements to Maemo 5 cannot be done by the community because many of the things of the n900 are closed and not open.
But if is it true that they are closed, and Nokia will not support Meego for N900, how can the community create a completely working Meego for the n900?
I don't believe it.

Yeah it would be nice if there was an official Kindle app. But at least you can still read them on the N900 with 3rd party tools.

Now if you could do the entire process on the N900 (download a book from Amazon, take the DRM off of it, convert with Calibre etc..). Right now you can only take the DRM off on the N900.
