unfortunately, all my experimentation with these parameters didn't provide something that you could even call "ok" picture quality.

I guess there is some other magic that is required in order to get a good picture quality, but I don't know what...

I wouldn't expect somthing much better than what you can get with Skype, which is still not all that good

With the quality of afforable webcams nowadays, there isn't really much excuse for Nokia having used such a poor quality camera...

I have a feeling that it is not a case of poor quality camera but a case of too dark glass in front of it when I compare it with other devices.
still the same result...

Probably this is what everybody want to see http://forums.internettablettalk.com...5&postcount=67
Its running on N810 i guess it would be possible to implement on N900 too.
And according to t_moyashi's blog
http://translate.google.com/translat...00-fmv4l2.html maybe it could work on N900.

Code:
gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video1 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! videobalance brightness=0.5 contrast=1.2 ! autovideosink
It's time to experiment with the other settings...

Thanks again!
less greenish

What do you expext from a 0.3 mp camera? no way will this give anything but bad results in comparison with the 5 mp rear camera.

Light will be an important factor here and i bet if you use the front camera with a massive amount of light on the subject the picture will not be green.

I've seen a lot of 0.3mp cameras that give you way higher quality images than what you get with the N900's "webcam" , most of them were made before the N900 was even getting designed.

You will probably find the front 0.3 camera was added at a later stage in development because they obviously gave the rear camera priority.

No support for front camera should tell you something, the lux factor is too high and they could not get it to work anything like the previous 0.3 cams used so gave up on the idea and left it in place on the finished product.

Sham by Nokia in this case.
