Anyhow, the N900 is a great device, I agree. But it doesn't have to be 100% open source and no one will ever build a completely open source mobile device, for some pretty good reasons.

It's naive to expect a manufacturer to do it, but Nokia are by far the most open. And I believe they'll continue to be with their MeeGo line, even if it is just a continuation of this NIT line of products, aimed at enthusiasts. Which is fine for me.
Stop being a prick twindell and just give your opinions WITHOUT sarcasm ok.

Unless there is somehow a new phone (not Android) running something similar to Maemo (meego maybe?) that comes out, I don't think I'll change my N900 in a while.

The Proximity sensor works fine, it's just slow, poor responsive.

Two_phone is not an option, I always feel like to laugh when I see people carry two phones for whatever reason. No offense.

I got one better for ya:

Nokia's ruined their relationship with me too many times for me to get anything with their brand anymore. I'll still consider MeeGo otherwise, though.

Slow, and poor responsive is not normal. It is not working fine from our point of view. I'm not sure if you need help on this (as you said you decided to switch pone anyway), but I'd find out what's going wrong if I were you. ^^

You got me wrong, I haven't decided yet.

I installed swappolube, used all the recommended settings and keep rebooting the device everyday or so. But I don't know if it helped or not.

I would appreciate if you have anything to offer to help.

I've seen in other threads with similar problems. There're two things that might affect the sensitivity of the sensor:

1) the screen protector that blocks the sensor
2) a magnet near where you store your N900 (e.g. pouch, purse)

You may run the following command to test the sensitivity of the proximity sensor (CTRL-C to break)

Code:
while true; do cat /sys/devices/platform/gpio-switch/proximity/state; done
'open' means nothing in front of the sensor, 'close' otherwise.

Hope this helps.
