I have the same problem, and I think it found the issue - when you installed the gtalk update, it locked the package database, and rebooted without unlocking it.
as root solved it for me.Code:rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
EDIT:
This might be a related issue.
rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
