Not unless your garage door uses infra-red.
This is highly unlikely, most are 433MHZ radio.

There are gate openers that detect lasers but this is a completely different wavelength.

If there Buletooth then their out of scope of this application.
Have a look at some of the bluetooth keyboard threads, have used my N900 as a PS3 keyboard a while ago, so it maybe possible.

Hi all,

Sorry about disappearing for something like half a year. I'm trying to work my way back to a normal life again, including getting some more work done on Pierogi. I don't know if I'll be able to spend quite as much time on it as I did before, but we'll see...

As I recall, I had a half-dozen interesting ways to develop Pierogi back in the spring, and I really haven't gotten much further on any of them. So to start, I'm trying to re-implement my new pseudo-tabbed interface at the top of the screen. If I can get it working, I'll put out a new release pretty soon (maybe this week?).

Please give me a holler for any Pierogi issues that need an immediate fix. Thanks!

Hmm. I was having this problem a lot with the very early versions of Pierogi, but I thought I managed to fix it. Originally, this due to Pierogi not releasing the /dev/lirc0 device when the program exited. So maybe I've still got some subtle issue there...

The problem might resolve itself by closing and restarting Pierogi again. (All the recent versions of Pierogi should be pretty good at making sure the device gets released when finished running.)

Also, I should mention that only one app can use the /dev/lirc0 device at a time, so if you're using another IR app (such as QtIrreco or Raemote), that might be why Pierogi can't access the device...
