I have mine now for about 2 hours and i did nothing but use it.

I have to say, i'm not happy.
I already had 2 or 3 reboots :/ Its sometimes very slow and sometimes it doesn't view what it is expected to view (not very clear what i mean: for example i call the menu and it stops half way through the animation)
One thing i absolutly want is listening to my music with my bluetooth headset and that works. But not always in a good way, often it skips.
Also i noticed a lot of graphics failures, like scrolling list which do not update when you scroll them.
As i wanted to use it as my primary phone i may have to send it back if it will proof it self not beeing stable.
I'm very sad because i don't see an other phone which is as good as the n900 could be and i wont buy an other phone.
Will there be firmware updates soon?
Do you have to enable the swap? Or is it enabled by default? (I didn't find an option)
I hope Maemo 5 will improve soon so that i can keep it.

Swap is enabled by default. If you've copied a load of music onto it then it may be busy reading the metadata, which could cause slowdowns elsewhere. If not, I'd suggest re-flashing it - this has fixed similar issues for other people.

Have you tried to increase the cache from the default 5mb to 40mb or less? You can find the setting from browsers settings in the browser itself.

1) Nope, as of now it's only general and silent

2) Don't have the n900 yet but I believe yes that means GPS is active and it is consuming your battery

3) no idea

Nope - it's currently just the two profiles.

The satellite dish indicates the GPS is being used, which will be chewing up the battery, yes. Have you enable location information for the IM accounts? I don't know what else would be polling the location fulltime.

Tap on the status area (where the load indicator is shown) and it should drop down a dialogue including the video/screenshot buttons. If you click on the "Availability" there, you can also check whether it's set to show your location or not, which will use the GPS.

I've recieved my N900. Finally the wait is over!

My first impressions are very positive. My previous smartphone is a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, by hardware a very nice device, should have the bang with its 528Mhz processor, but it just hasn't got the kick and smoothness. Which is absolutely bonkers! Bloody Windows Mobile made it almost the slowest device I ever owned...

But then the N900, holy crap. My first expression was: It's a iPhone experience but 200% better. The multitasking is an absolute bliss. I usually have 2 or more concurring msn chats going while browsing the internet, listening to music and take a photo now and then. Not a problem at all. The device challenge you to open as much as you can to see if it will ever slow down.

To be honest the lack of MMS or voice dailing are a non-issue for me. Frankly I couldn't care less. MSS is outdated and should be banished (old, slow and rediculous prices in the Netherlands). Voice dailing, had it on 5 mobile phones, never used once.

I'm very enthousiastic to see an almost daily increase in software availability! Think I'm going to sign up for software testing so the community can release more software from the extras-testing to the extras repository! Although Nokia describes this device step 4 out of 5 it is an absolute bliss to use, the complete integration of different accounts like msn, yahoo and such makes it so much more easier to stay connected on different channels with my friends, family and other contacts.

My 11 seasons of Top Gear play straight away with N900 with no work needed!!! New season is in HD(1.5GB files), but just since this season so i only need to change those 3 episodes.
The 700mb files i'm playing now on the N900 look amazing on the screen and TV

k3ks some owners have reported similar on first boot. Reboot seems to have solved for some

1) NO software updated as of yet. Nokia said there should be an updated out before the end of the year.

2) IF you see the satellite antenna symbol it means the GPS unit is on, and consuming power. And yes if on it does comsume quite a bit of power. My N810 will only run around 6 hours with the GPS unit on. If the symbol is flashing it means that GPS unit is trying to establish a fix. If you are not needing it (like when indoors) you should turn it off to increase uptime.

2) The Load applet is two small barcharts on the the status bar. The left bar is processor load. The bar on the right seems to be the amount of memory that applications/data are using.
