I have just got this from Nokia:

we still dont have the exact release date for the Nokia N900; but since you pre ordered it
you'll be one of the first to receive it after it's released. As soon as the product is in stock, we'll process your order and take your payment.

If the product doesn't become available within 30 days of you ordering (the pre-order expiry date), we'll contact you to:

a.ask if you want to cancel your order, or
b.if feasible, provide you with a substitute product of the same quality or price.

Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Yours faithfully

I do not want a substitute product!!!

I have actually came to this conclusion, that Nokia is intentionally delaying the device, its a marketing system,
you build up hype,
give 300 prototypes to the nerds,
they go around and do the free advertising for Nokia,
then Nokia "pushes back" the release date, so people talk about the phone more and more,
so media puts focus on the device "Nokias much anticipated device delayed",
so more people gets interested and etc, you get the picture...

and if you think delaying effects the reputation of the phone, then you are wrong, it doesn't, its "just a delay".

Who was it that said they'd been told their store would take stock on the 2nd November?
Has anything changed for you?

for now it seems that end of nov is pretty accurate. at least one operator in finland has announced that they start shipping at the beginning of dec.

e: bolded correction

Nokia Nederland still has
Wordt verwacht eind oktober
(see http://shop.nokia.nl/nokia-nl/produc...buynow&pp=n900). Since we are now in November, we can safely bet that the N900 will be on sale by the end of October, 2010.

are you sure zico?

I'm sick and tired of waiting for phones.
I never ever care about phones getting released. Only if its set close to the announcement day.

That is why i opened my eyes. Sept (Announcement)->Okt(Release)!

Now i might get the Acer A1 if it has a decent camera.
Its a lot cheaper too. Lets see which comes first.

What would make for even better marketing is people getting their phones and saying "Wow this thing is awesome".

What doesn't make for good marketing is "I'm sick of waiting for this stupid thing, I think I'll buy [competitor's product] because it's just as good and available now".

If this is true, we should all boycott the N900 if the release date passed mid Nov.
