@peter: Yes, I know that it was done to keep the dimensions down. I just don't especially like it. Removing the battery was a great way of resetting the phone in a hurry if it's gone haywire, and I I usually carry two batteries with me, in case I need more juice. Also, with a removable battery, higher density, third-party batteries can be used.

I don't doubt that the service department know their jobs, I just think that the one piece of tech that is the achilles heel of every power hungry superphone should be quickly accessible and swappable by the user.

1. Choice
2. Maintenance centres usually don't. Really. Lots to worry about there.
3. Removable batteries have saved my *** many times. Mostly when travelling or being away from a source of electricity. The N9 has what, 4.5 hours of battery juice when watching a movie, right? (Think of the N900 with the USB problems without removable batteries....)

On a side note, congrats to you Peter and all those that developed the N9. I hope it has a lot of consumer success and perhaps even convinces Nokia that it should rethink its WP7 strategy. The UI does look sweet.

I'm not sure I got that one right now:

Did you plan to keep N900-like multitasking after the poll and change your mind later on so that now application will just shut down at random, like on Android phones?

Or was it the other way round: Applications will still be closed manually in Harmattan, only at one time during the development process you had the idea you'd go the Android route?

this maybe? DC-11

@ least as a 2nd battery; as far as "hardware reset" goes, maybe they simply don't want the device to be used that way (i.e.: as a hacker dev)?

It means the 3.5mm jack. Like on the Galaxy S.

Like i said already it's most likely 512mb where rest is swap. On OMAP3430/N900 it was 256mb and rest was swap.

@misterc: Yes, I know that. Still it is suboptimal for a device that you want to carry in one hand and in a pants pocket. I can see carrying that in a backpack a last-ditch attempt to resuscitate the phone.

As for the battery-pullout-reset thing: I don't know about that. I don't think that removing that feature played any significant role in their decision to scrub the removable battery; I read that simply as collateral damage.
