So, while I'm researching hosts, is anyone up for subletting their current hosts? I'd be more than willing to help you with cost if you could add 2 domains.
I have a virtual server with http://www.tektonic.net/unmanaged.html - from $15 p.m. to do whatever you want with it. If you're OK administering a *nix server (or I could help with that) it might be a viable option. Host asterisk, openfire, exim, cyrus etc... all in one place and you've got everything you want.

My server is used for commercial sites so I can't mess around with it too much, but I can play with things on my home server for testing.

As I said, I'd be willing to help with the admin/setup on a server like this. I've reasonable experience with asterisk and a decent understanfing of java app. servers (for openfire).

Sorry guys. I took my kid out trick or treating and came home and crashed after a long day at work. I'm just getting caught up.

Appreciate the offer. I'm not sure we'll need it anymore since Tex got the Dreamhost package, I'll let you know. Yeah, I can handle root.

Hmmm... someone else says you can use the coupon code 50CHEAP to knock off the setup fee at Dreamhost on month-to-month accounts...

Whoa... someone else says DREAMKITTEN knocks off $90 at Dreamhost...

Final Edit: ok, the second promo turned out to be true: I got a year's hosting with Dreamhost for $29!

So we're set. I didn't transfer domains yet because it's still too early. However, there's a temporary dreamhosters subdomain (ldug.dreamholders.com). Later, I'll work out the transfer from 1and1.

Awesome, sir. What a deal. We also won't have to deal with running the Jabber server ourselves since I believe it's run by DH... so... we should be good to go. Only thing is that we'll have to add Jabber users manually, but that's not a big deal.

Thanks pixelseventy2.

I went ahead and got the dreamhost account. However, if you want to participate (and you are welcome), pm me with your actual name and the email address you want to use and I will set you up as an authorized user.

zerojay, same goes for you of course.

The offer stands for anything I can help out with. While I probably won't use the service as I've got my own already what I need, I still want to help the community. Anything that can encourage people to migrate is a good thing.

You both are setup, and will receive emails with the info.

Looks like we'll have to wait for the domain to come through before we can create Jabber users, which is fine.

Sweet, SVN. Awesome.

Well, I have to keep jablet.net registered with 1and1 for 60 days. Man did I goof.

But-- technut tells me that just because 1and1 has to keep the registration doesn't mean they have to HOST it. So there's a bright spot. I've never done what we need to do here (move just the hosting) so if 1 of you two knows the procedure that will be great...

Looking at the 1and1 admin, it looks like we can have the domain forward elsewhere through frame redirect or http redirect... still not ideal. Well, we could just register one of the previous domains we came up with instead.
