On N800,
/media/mmc2 is the internal, the one you have to remove the battery cover

/media/mmc1 is the external, the one you access via the side of the tablet after push away the kick stand.

I had similar problem, cant install...........

First of all, GREAT GREAT THAKS for Your work, penguinbait. I install KDE on my internal flash on Nokia N800 and it... rocks!!!!
But I have a truble. My native language is Russian, so I want to localize my KDE. With translation itselves there're no problems - I just copy files from $KDEHOME/share/locale/ru from my linux laptop to /usr/local/share/locale on N800 and change language in Control Center. But I have a problem with kvkbd. I want to switch language thrue built-in KDE tool (in control Center), but letters on kvkbd don't switch and if I try to write something, it writes but in incorrect encoding. Does anybody have any ideas avout my problem? Thank You!

OK to clarify... On the N810 the internal/non-removable card is MMC2 & the removable/external card is MMC1

On the N800 there is an SD card slot under the battery that users refer to as "internal" it's very important here for users to specify what device they are using because there are differences between these 2 machines.

@Penquinbait - Speaking of differences, are you using the same debs for both the N800 and the N810? If so, how did you work around the bootmenu.conf problem on the N810? Are people installing this on N810s able to even bootup onto the clone if they have an SD card in their external slot?

@Penguinbait: Thanks again this great. I tested your distro with a dual boot setup and with the new deb setup. I did not have a problem with fonts in mini-moz in either one. I don't think I did anything different than everyone else, but all seems to be well. There is one problem: on the n810 running the latest version of OS2008, after installing the deb KDE distro. One run KDE sound is fine, when I exit back to hildon desktop, sound is gone. If I go back into KDE sound remains gone. Only a reboot helps.

To fix your sound problem you need to set the settings in KDE - look for KMix, IIRC it's in the status bar by default. Or at least that's what I've done and I don't have any sound problems.

Funny about you not have font issues in microb though wonder what you did or didn't do that I did?

My hosting site is #@$%#@$ up, files you guys are downloading are becoming corrupted.

This was both bun and bart's problem

PLEASE VERIFY FILE SIZES, this can me seen with in xterm
ls -l /media/mmc1 (or mmc2)

This does not boot from mmc, this is still booting from flash, it extends /usr/local 1.3GB and then installs. The files sit on /media/mmc1 or mmc2. It creates a file local.img 1.3GB which sits on FAT FS and mounts as ext2 FS.

Getting tricky

This is the easiest thing I ever done with the iT. Thank you, Penguinbait.

I dl the files to PC, confirmed the file length, txf to N800 /media/mmc1, rename tarball.tar.tar to .tar.bz2, followed installing sequency as in thread #1, it then installed in one shot. and I am now totally mesmerized by the kdesktop.......thanks again.

Don't know if it's the installation or the poor quality of A-Data cards, but my newly acquired 16gb sdhc card became unreadable after I pulled it out of the external slot despite the warning that the card was still in usage. Is it safe to take out the card even tho KDE is not running?

another thing, ok to use FAT32 format?
