But can people see that THEY are unfriendly in the first place?

You could simply state "my phone is slow like hell, the Media Player can't see my music or is slow... what can be wrong? how can I fix it?" and have A LOT more people willing to help in a civil way.

Instead people add phrases like "Why can't nokia provide us a lag-free os".

Why people complaining about the "unfriendliness" of this forum understand this simple matter?

the "inferior phones do better" quote was me, but that applies ONLY to the animations/scrolling. I had a g1 before when it was first released and scrolling sometimes was appalling. I voiced my displeasure of the aspect, and so did others. It improved greatly, as im hoping the n900 will do. In all other aspects, such as multitasking and the advanced OS, I like this phone much more than others..hence the nearly 600 i spent on it.

Another experience I had with slowness when I want to hang up a non-answered phone call, and wait for the device to get back from portrait to landscape.

When I make a call in portrait mode, and then want to hang up - I take the phone off my ear and during that, naturally, it exit portrait mode, and it takes some time for the device to go into and out off portrait mode (the flip animation of the UI)- so until I can press the "hang up" red button, the voice mail answers...

It's not in the context and the tone of how many people come here just to complain about the **** they've got without even realizing it's probably only a temporary fault that's easily fixed.

After all the poster of this thread started like "everywhere I hear people saying the N900 is so fast".
I mean.. doesn't this trigger something like "may be it's mine.. may be some file screwed up, let's find a solution" instead of a "Nokia just do it better" and trashing the phone?

I think EVERY phone out there has issues.. how come people still react like this?
And how come people here still give the "maemo community" (i.e. themselves) the accusation of being unfriendly.

This really amazes me.

I know, I was quoting random "ranting".. just to prove my point.
Nothing personal to anyone here

The only slow aspect I found really noticeable was how long it took to activate the phone, especially using the shaking method. I can't wait to get my replacement N900 and see if the new firmware fixes that. I still wish there was a hardware activation button...

This annoys me as well..
We should file a Phone enhancement and ask for it to NOT rotate when ringing.

Hmm, sounds like an OSI Layer 8 issue.

The funny thing is, a lot of the "problems" people report can be easily fixed by just clicking at the bar at the top of any application and going to settings.

For example, the phone rotation problem, you guys DO know you can just open the phone app up, click the top bar where it says Phone, (wow lookie thar! A menu!)

Click Turning Controls, then set the phone to "Portrait" only so it never rotates.

C'mon guys. Look around a bit.

Amazes me too man. What can be more friendly than letting you raise a bug and then vote on it?. This is really a great community. And yes its passionate too especially when faced with irrational opinion. thanks.

Missed my point... when you've got a problem, you come here and ask.
There's nothing more friendly than that.
And I want know where the "community" as been unfriendly there.

But how can you (community member just because you own an N900) come here with a shitty tone to only blame and complain, expect to be helped and not yelled at by other (community members) ?

What's special in the community members that they can't yell back or use sarcasm ?
What's different between the community member that comes here for help and the one the helps?
They are both humans.

If I want help, I ask help and get it.
If I blame, I expect reactions and get them as well.

You?

A simple change to the thread title would have made all the difference. "Why is MY N900 so slow"

Pointless arguing against fanboy generalizations, by starting with sweeping statements.
