Duffer posted a scope reading. I'm hoping he's able to repeat the test while the audio jack is in a mid-disconnection state.

To anyone whose earphones failed multiple times, could they post models? I'd be interested to see if there's a pattern, and also info on the maximum power handling to see if there's also some sort of correlation there...

same thing happened to me... this headphones usually fail when u use it and place it on your jeans and the tip of the wire from the 3.5mm is bent extremely causes it to break the contact inside which is fragile...

same story happened to my bose triport IE...

anyway, ive tried using samsung's headphone+mic and it worked perfectly. dunno the model but it came with the samsung galaxy spica unit... i guess its the free headset of most of samsung now...

I'm using an AudioTechnika ATH-SJ5, great one for the price, but I would love to see a daemon to handle the standard wired Nokia remote buttons. As for the original headset, I would not touch it with a stick, I'm allergic to earbuds.

Bluedio AV890 work beautifully. Bluetooth stereo for music and headset for calls. See a review below.

Well I got fed up of waiting for one to appear so I've kludged up one. Behold my jacked remote with volume control!!

I chopped a WH-205 and used a Shure EA650 as the volume control. I took the EA650 apart, and soldered the WH-205 cables into it.

WH-205 litz cable colours FYI

Red = ring
Green = tip
Blue + clear = ground

I'd rather a cheap pot wasn't in the audio path to a $1700 headphone (or $1100 earphones), but even this is better than going via a jacked Bluetooth remote.

Still missing transport controls of course...

I've tried buying different ones (from motorola to sony, etc) but they all make a high pitched screeching sound when plugged into the N900... Only the original ones work, and they are falling apart on me...

Is my only option to buy from Nokia?
sennheiser MM50 for NOKIA is the answer for you.dont get confused for I phone variant.

I'm not certain what problem regarding the headsets that this thread is trying to address. But I do know one thing, the N900 has a problem when using certain headsets, some wired headsets sound ridiculously low and soft when using it with the n900.

I created a script that fixes this problem which can be found here.

With this script you can use any headset with the N900 and you won't have that low audio issue. I'm using some cheap $15 headsets with mine and they sound great (as in loud and clear)...I also tweaked the bluetooth headset quality a little.

I don't have any headets with mic, but I have tested some random wired headsets that have volume control on em and so far they all worked with my script.
