OpenWrt LOL. At least it does what Unix was made for, a switch box basically. They made those in the 60s you know.

Switchbox? Obviously you don't know what you're talking about.
It's undoubtly the most versatile and capable router software out there these days and is able to run on most brands with far more functionality than they originally were intended for.

Naturally it is powered by a linux distribution.

And in the mean time these devices are dumped. Anyone knows how much devices are being sold? What impact does that have on the sales of the current market leaders, I wonder.

That I can agree with. Look, Android has proved more than anything that Linux is capable for some weird stuff. That is not the question here. Android is not exactly a vanilla Linux, but still, on less than 1 GHz and 512+ MB RAM it doesn't exactly rock. Even on the SGSII there are issues as overheating etc.

The N9 though may be just perfect. A perfect blend of hardware and software. Soon we will find out.

WebOS couldn't save Palm/HP. It tried two times, but it just didn't work.

No offence, but you now sound like the guy who has been gravely enchanted by well made marketing materials.
I'd like to hear what relevance does the 13kb kernel have in this context? The final OS with the services, UI and all that fluff is anyway going to be hugely "bloated" by that standard, unless you intend to make a product only for the most extreme of hard core nerds.

I mean think of this scenario, you want to penetrate a market that's already divided by android/wp/ios, so make lots of noise about your great product and make sure the stores are equipped in time. Just before launch date, cancel the project and watch the market gets flooded, stalling competitors sales.
Either resume the project, by popular demand, or go with one of the three main players that has something to gain w.r.t. the other two.
(disclaimer, smoking pot makes you paranoid)

Fair, personally I'm not really an Android fan either (even though I prefer it any day before that iCrap, both technically and ideologically), because I don't think it's a true representation of a real linux OS and it also runs that java engine which probably would be the reason to why someone would consider those devices bloated or slow or burning up the hardware. You are not running native code so what would you expect?

What I just cannot agree with though is when someone calls Linux bloatware. What do you compare with then? One has to make comparisons in the right context in order to be fair. You cannot compare a desktop OS with some embedded OS or even a OS designed for tablets. It's very different stuff.
If you take a look at the embedded linux kernels for instance, you can really start to talk about scaleability and minimalistic design, even if its clearly not the best choice for targeting the smaller types of microcontrollers where you have completely different demands for flexibility (look at Enea OSE for instance in such cases).

Besides, if you want to look at real bloatware, take a look at Vista or Windows 7, that's where things has gotten out of hand completely.
I cannot speak for OSX, but I don't care because I loathe that commercial hell hole more than anything. They're even worse than Microsoft.

That is where you are wrong. Android and iOS are the two largest (Symbian is in fact still larger than iOS, but this will presumably change next Q). You are mixing stuff here. You are talking like an executive, thinking like an executive, not as a consumer. You have completely been brainwashed to think exactly like Apple and Google want you to think: Android/Apple is the only thing "worth" having because our "success" is "your" success.

Toyota and VW are dominating family cars. Does this mean we (an average family) don't have other choices? Far from it. Porsche is small, does that mean that Porsche is dead? no. Do you buy a BMW because you want BMW to "succeed" ? no. You buy a BMW because it is a joy to drive and because it looks cool and maybe because it gives you a bit status.

Your other choices are: Symbian, Bada, WP, RIM, the N9. There are loads of dumb phones. In fact dumb phones are starting to become fashion. The simple but robust "off road" phones are skyrocketing on the charts because they are practical and because they are suddenly becoming the new fashion. Just wait, it will happen in the US as well.

I mean, get the phone YOU want, there are tons of choices. YOU decides what phone you want, not Apple or Google.
