i have been following this thread for a while and i finally registered. this is so frustrating waiting and waiting while people that ordered later than me (i am one of the 11/5 preorders) receive their phone. i referenced the 11/19 order number that was shipped out 11/22 and she was telling me that i needed the person's name to be able to talk about that orders information. i told her it was irrelevant, i just wanted her to see the order date and ship date and compare it to mine. this is totally ridiculous. she gave me a ship date of january 29 and when i chewed her out some more she put me on hold and came back with december 7 date. still a hell of a wait. aslktjawkljfs

See..when I gave my rep that order number. I told her even before I gave it to her that I didn't need any information off that order. I'm providing this order number as a benefit to you to be able to reference information in comparison to my own order. She did ask me who's order it was, and I just said it was a friends. But I again stated that you don't have to give me any information on the order. I'm not asking about it other than to give you a reference point for basing my question off of...as to why this one was shipped and older orders are still waiting.

So I just got off the phone will Dell checking my status for any updates, and they still say it should be delivered by December 10th. However, they had also promised to upgrade my shipping to Next Day earlier in the week, but after speaking to a manager he pretty much said that's not going to happen. So it seems like for the few of us who were promised an upgrade in shipping, it was just a lie to get us off the phone. Also, neither of the reps that I spoke to could explain how their pre-order queue worked, and why someone who ordered on the 19th had theirs shipped out before Nov 5th orders.

I got a completely different response. My Dell rep had taken down my number/email address, and researched it for me for about an hour. After she had gotten back with me, her explanation for what had happened is that when the 5th orders were placed, there was no stock available. So they went into some sort of holding pattern status. When stock arrived, orders that were placed on or near that day were fulfilled right away, and somehow older orders were "overlooked".

I put that word in quotes because she said it like 3-4 times during our conversation. Overlooked. Overlooked. It sounded suspicious to me, almost like there's more information that she had, but couldn't give me.

Then she had started talking me down the path of canceling that Nov 5th order, and re-ordering again. I stopped her and asked why. She seemed to be saying that it would refresh my order in the system, and when new stock came in it would be fulfilled, and not overlooked possibly.

All this talk of overlooking the older orders started having me believe that Dell is purposely not giving any attention to those orders. Almost as if she was giving me a subtle hint or something to not stick with my original order and start a new one because the older one would never get processed.

I stopped her again and asked about the price. I didn't want to cancel my order and start a new one unless I could get the same price as my original order. This made her have to put me on hold again, as when she checked my order it was at the $442 price, and I believe on Dell's website the N900 is going for $550.

She comes back on the line after a bit and says that what she could do is offer me a coupon code for instant money off a new order. Since there already is a $50 off deal on the website (it's a mail in rebate though), she said that this would just be an instant off, and she got it approved for $75. (I'm not sure at this point if I can take advantage of the existing $50 mail-in rebate, and also the coupon offer from her for $75, but if I can, that would make the price actually cheaper than my Nov 5th price!)

So, should I cancel and order new with a coupon they gave me and see if I can get the $50 mail-in rebate as well? Or stick to my guns and keep my original order hoping that it'll ship next week once stock comes in (if it does).

If you stick to your old order you still have a chance of getting the $50 dollar rebate albeit a smaller chance and that would make your order 442-50.

I am not so sure I would believe her if you look at the spreadsheet most people that received it ordered on nov 5th only did a few get it from an order after the 5th.

My best guess is that it had to do with location. My rep said my order should ship out next week but like i said I don't believe any of these reps, I do not think they are providing us with accurate information. Thats just my 2 cents.

I got to keep one of the Dell N900īs I got.

And Iīve been playing with it since. It is awesome.

Lots of basic functionalities missing, but I can see it being better than my N900 in 2-3 months. The maps application sucks badly, and is probably all thatīs needed to make me think they are equals. Wow.

Mic works fine, screen is good, no reboots, battery lasts well. Iīve got a few weird things going on though. Widgets sometimes disappear from the desktop and need to be replaced there.

This happens to the IM widget, Ovi widget, OM Weather widget and google search widget. None of the other widgets and shortcuts I have disappear like that.

Good accessories:
The chinese 3.99/4.99 plastic / rubber case on Ebay is a good buy. Fits the phone well and looks nice on it.

The durasec screen protector I bought was a waste of $12. Itīs got extra holes punched in it, did not lay down properly and couldnīt be adjusted well. So I had to order a replacement.

Cons:
Like X61 I find it annoying not to be able to make profiles.

Bookmarks in web browser do not sort alphabetically, but in a seemingly random order. That is quite annoying.

I canīt set the date format easily. Iīm stuck with MM/DD/YYYY while Iīd want YYYY-MM-DD.

Widgets disappear every once in a while from desktop.

Maps application is just a map and a search button. Nothing more to it. They almost couldīve skipped it until it was better than that.

There are no audio profiles.

Podcasts are not built into the media app. I donīt understand why.

Office to go needs to improve.

Waiting for Fring to arrive

No good search function on phone. Thatīs a big negative.

No way to move icons around in the program menu. Thereīs a lot of inbuilt applications Iīll never use and Iīd like to move them to where the sun donīt shine.

I canīt backup my contacts from my old N95 contact file. PC Suite doesnīt allow it.

The front camera is a strange device. I hope the camera is better than what I see in the mirror 3rd party app. Not expecting IMAX quality, but it must be better than this.

It is hard to switch between keyboard languages on the physical keyboard, and there is no general character map. I canīt write letters such as þ and ð. Það gerir það ansi erfitt að skrifa mitt eigið tungumál.
The character set supports it, but I need a character map anyway to be able to pick them out.

Proīs:
Battery holds out better than my N95-1.

I think the keyboard feels good to type on, except for when writing numbers.

Sound is good. Media application is incomplete for sorting and searching.

Webbrowsing rocks.

Sharing via pixelpipe rocks greatly.

Screen and ui are very responsive, Iīve always liked resistive screens, since I come from glove country, and it works fine.

I like the Skype integration, but Iīll probably nevertheless use Fring most IM functions, Fring is just so much more useful.

More comments

I have a N86, N97 and a N900 here at home now. I actually just packed the N97 up and am sending it off tomorrow. The N97 felt cheap to hold and play with, compared to the N900, and I didnīt like symbian touch interface. The N86 S60.3rd feels great though as always.

I donīt think the N900 is too big nor too heavy. To me it feels just right to hold both weight and size wise. Fits well into my pant pockets. A solid piece just like the N86, albeit a tad larger.

The N86 is sturdy as my N95 was. My wife will like it. I see a great potential in the N900 to be better than the N86 and N95 if Maemo will continue to be enhanced over the coming months.

Actually my original order is not eligible. It looks like you have to order / pre-order between Nov 16th, and Dec 31st to be eligible for the rebate of $50 from Nokia. What's nice is that the discount Dell is offering me is separate from the rebate, so I might be able to piggy back them on top of each other with no trouble.

Yea it really is up to you, let us know how it goes though. I just hope the 2nd batch comes in soon. The reason i say 2nd batch is because I have not heard any one from dell recieving their order after the 1st batch fiasco.

I like the device too, but I seem to be having wifi issues. A good example is Zoutube, which I can only get vids to play for seconds and then they stop and do not resume even after waiting a minute. My Archos 5, G1 and Droid stream HQ fullscreen without a hitch. Strange.

Shows full bars, just does not stream the vids very long at all.

Longest so far id 40ish seconds.
