What OS are you using, Linux or Windows?
Are you sure the device is totally OFF when you connect the flasher?
Have you flashed it before with the same computer, same cable?

windows, and i tried an ubuntu vm same result!
after connecting it for about a minute it gives:
usb device not recognized, then disconnects, then appears the message that i'v posted for a few second then it shows the mydocs folder for a few more seconds then it shuts off.
i pressed the power button for more than 10 sec, then tried to press very shortly and i get no blink, so i thought i might be the battery is flat.

Have installed Ubuntu USB/live can't get wifi, tried for days

One thing you can do, is to start flasher, then connect the device to cable, then press and hold down the power button for real long time, I think it is about 30 seconds or so.
I have found out that some cables might be OK for charging, but NOK for flashing or communication. Don't really know why but it just is so.

ok got it working, it was the flasher not compatible with windows 8.1, so i used windows 7 mv, it connected as expected..

just prepare files you need, connect N9 and fix it!
